Hi all,

I am thinking about purchasing my electricals here in the UK to take to La Isla. From some of the Spanish websites I have looked at the prices in the UK seem quite a bit cheaper. I will probably buy fridge, washer, dryer, dish washer and tv here. Can you see me having any trouble with the voltage or any other potential problems?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks Willy.

Is it still the same voltage? I am wondering whether I would just use the standard adapter or if I would need to get the plub changed to a Spanish 2 pin thing?

Hi Mark,

Yep the voltage is the same, no problems there.  We brought over TV, kettle, toaster and coffee maker as the choice on Spain is no where as good as the UK and the prices are much higher there too.   I changed all the plugs to Spanish ones too, cheaper than using adaptors.

One thing to consider re the white goods, be sure to check that they have a european wide guarantee. A lot will only be covered in the UK, and it's a llong way to take back if there's a problem when you install.

Phil

Phil's right re the prices and selection of kettles, toasters, hairdryers etc.  Icouldn' believe the prices of microwaves there - way more than in UK. I think the larger white goods are probably just as good value/choice there though and - as he says - a lot less hassle warranty wise if purchased locally.

Hi Mark,

In agreement with Phil, the small goods are dearer in Spain, perhaps because they are not big on Kettles and toasters as they don't brew tea! I got all my larger appliances as a package from a british company here in Spain called Real Domestic Appliances. The bonus is that you don't risk any transport damage and they deliver and install and in Spain you get a full 2 years guarantee.
