Hi all,

We are heading out to our apartment in Corvera for Christmas (can't wait!), and would appreciate any advice on where to get the best value (and most reliable!) car hire.

I see EOS has a sponsored link with cartrawler.com but we used them earlier this year and were let down very badly by them. We arrived at the Auriga Crown desk at Murcia airport with our booking details only to be told there was no car for us! The booking was with Auriga Crown, using cartrawler as the agent. We were told at the Auriga desk that our booking had been cancelled by them two weeks previously, and that they had informed cartrawler. I rang cartrawler in Dublin who said they knew nothing of this. They did refund our booking deposit but we still had no car for our trip to Spain! There were no other cars available for hire at the airport from any desk.

We had to get a cab to the hotel in Los Alcazares, and then hire a car from the hotel (not cheap!) the day we needed to get to Corvera for first-time apartment viewing & snagging purposes. Our heartfelt thanks once again to Roy & Lorraine of InspectaSpain who were extremely helpful on that trip (and have been ever since!).

Luckily our solicitor is based in Los Alcazares so we could walk to their offices!

I rang cartrawler's Dublin office a few times when I got back but got no satisfaction, only a distinct reluctance from anyone to return my calls!

I have looked on the 'net for car hire but cartrawler seem to be the cheapest, but when their reliability is in question I would like an alternative if anyone can please help?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ron,

Great, will check them out. I do appreciate your help with this, would hate to have to go back to a company who let me down so badly and don't seem to care!

Rgds,

I.

Ditto what Ron says.

Always used Doyouspain and never any trouble (couple of car style upgrades but no problems)

I too have had trouble with Cartrawler bookings at Murcia airport. More specifically Goldcar, where the original booking ended up twice the price quoted by Cartrawler.

I sent an e-mail via thier website querying final costs on 2 recent bookings with them, but have had no response whatsoever. if you can avoid Goldcar at Murcia airport, it might be worth it - the cars are not in great condition either.

We have been using Coastline, who are based in Torrevieja, for around 15 years. Family business (English) and very pleasant. We have never been let down and always have good service and a friendly welcome (they were nice to me, even when my father left the car in the wrong bit of Alicante airport and arrived back in Gatwick with the keys and the ticket in his pocket still!). I hesitate to recommend them as I'd prefer to keep them for myself (:-) (as others have commented, there is a shortage of hire cars at the moment, as operators have cut back, and you need to be organised and book early these days, particularly in high season), but....Last time I went on their web-site, it wasn't working well, but phone and email are fine.

Hi,

I have tried to e-mail COASTLINE CAR HIRE to no avail it will not send. I am looking to hire for 21 days in three weeks time. we used  RECORD before did not have a problem but then problems only arise if you are involved in an accident.READ the small print in terms and conditions it would shock you what is not covered and the client is liable when things go wrong, always take super cover or the extra cover they offer for peace of mind.
