car hire

is there any car hire companies that dont have any hidden costs  ie fuel thats double the price, hidden insurance costs etc . would be nice to know exactly what your paying without being fleeced at the airport . any recommendations?

Sorry, can't help.  We have tried different hire companies from Alicante and San Javier and so far they have all charged  an inflated cost of a full tank of fuel.  On the positive side where would you hire a car in UK for less than £100 for the week and with no excess.

We recently had a great week in SJ with Mick and Pam Carr. No, you never know wots goin to happen, as regards to cost, when you pick up the hire car. Yes, initially the price is good, but when we picked up our car ( a smaller one than we ordered !) we were told we had an excess of 600 euros, unless we paid an extra 120 euros to cover this! This was more than the cost of hiring in the 1st place........ We declined, and drove very wary for the next week !!!!!!!!!!! The hire car is becoming a major cost now to a visit to the village.

I think car hire is going the same as the cheap airlines in that they cut the main hire price and then load it with charges for everything they can think of. But this happened to me when I went back to the UK last year and needed to hire a car, it's not just in Spain. One of them even tried to charge me for returning a car to a different airport than I collected it even though I had agreed it in advance, fortunately I had the e-mail so they had to back down.

Some of the people we know who come to Spain several times a year buy a small spanish car and pay long term car parking at the airport, I've never asked but I assume this works out cheaper but will depend on how many trips you make each year.
