An update from the H Riquelme community site regarding rail, roads, and airports:-

Sucina Riquelme Station
Working group formed to press RENFE for re-opening with local
residents and current train users helping to define correct contacts
Hacienda Riquelme, Sucina, La Tercia, Peralaja - all interested.

Requires authorisation from Murcia Region Government
We have asked Murcia Region Govt for meeting to put our case for opening.
No response yet so follow-up request sent last week
Station will be unmanned – tickets on train
Will need some work to bring up to standard
Will provide a limited service to Cartegena and Murcia

Feedback from RENFE, if opening authorised, is very positive
No timescales or available date for opening.

Many thanks for all the info.   At least there are some positives coming out relating the surrounding area, especially if the local railway does start operating frequesntly.   Perhaps now Polaris will push the local town hall more about getting their plans passed completely so they can start on the Town Centre.   Surely they must realise that the more there is on site the more we will frequent it.

Hoping this Summer is a beauty

I have heard very little about the new Airport at Corvera. Has this fallen victim to the recession, or is it still under construction. If it is still on stream, does anyone know which airlines may be using it.

Thanks

John

An update on the re-opening of the rail station

Dear Neighbour
Riquelme Train Station Petition update

Thank you for your participation in the petition, to follow is an update.

This week, I have visited the offices of the Conserjería de Transporte on Monday and I met with Doña Carmen Sandoval Sánchez, Director General of Transport & Ports, Murcia and Don José Garcia Garcia, Chief of Technical Assessment, Murcia and I have presented the petition.

Petition totals (to date)
Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort:
Direct signatures: 506
E-mail signatures: 251

Sucina:
Direct signatures: 182
___
Total: 939

They received the petition well and will pass it to Renfe, the train company to prove that there are people who will actively like to use the station. Renfe in turn will send it to Adif, the national provider of the rail infrastructure. If the station is to be opened, it will be Adif who will pay for the changes.

They explained that the only works that would need to be completed would be new adaptations for the tracks; to build in some controls to allow trains to pass each other. There would not be any need for a station guard, users of the station could buy a ticket at the machine or possibly on the train.

Now that the petition has gone to Adif, we await a reply and hopefully a positive decision!

I will keep you posted!
Best regards
Hilary Quinlan
HRGR Resident
