Guys, just to keep you up to date :

We now have wifi at Coto Real, and I'm sure you will have a signal at Arenal.

Our installer is www.freewifispain.com  contact Brian at brian@freewifispain.com

He will come out and do a free site visit to your apartment just to make sure you can get a signal.

Installation cost is between €150 and €200, and if you want your own wifi router, another €100.

Full time residents can then sign up to a €30 monthly package, and holiday owners can pay €10 each week they are there.

Don't know how far you are with getting your own official Community going but it would be worth chasing it up with Preisewer as you may need official approval.

hi will, i want this doing asap.  i miss my laptop a lot whilst out there and my daughter would be much happier with it too. She is worried about staying full time and not having access to friends at home like she does here.  What exactly is involved for us do you know? Do we need a telephone line installed, if so what sort of costs and waiting times does this involve?  i emailed the address you posted but not had a reply as yet.   Has anybody on our development had it done do you know?

Enough questions for you there ?  ha

One more, i know the road next to ours is coming along but how are you lot doing going up to coto real? is it still hazardous going up ?

suzanne

Hi Suzanne

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - just logged in amd saw your post. (Didn't get your email that you refer to)

First, you don't need a telephone line as the wifi signal is already there in the area. It's a matter of Brian from freewifspain doing a site survey at your apartment just to check you're getting a clear signal. Cost should be approx €150 to €200 for a hardwired connection, and a further €100 if you want a wireless wifi router installed.

We went for that version as it means the whole apartment and the terrace (maybe even down to the pool) is covered, plus you can use PDA's, wireless internet radios, and several other laptops that the rest of your family or friends can use all at the same time.

Installation is pretty quick - Brian will be able to let you know the time scale involved.

The only fly in the oitment is having it installed "officially" - Brian may need to gain access to the rooftop to install an arial (which serves at least one block).

To keep yourself on the right side, contact whoever your management company is and run it past them. If it's AEA it should be straightforward as they already know freewifispain and his work.

If you have any problems come back to me at wflem007@aol.com direct

Brian can be got at brian@freewifispain.com and 0034 685 472 172

I think there's half a dozen installations now at Coto Real, all working perfectly.

I'm hoping the Road at our end is nearly finished ! We were last over at end of May and they were making great progress then, all the hardcore had been laid. Next over Sept 09 and looking forward to seeing it finished !

Regards

Will

Thanks very much Will.   I am all sorted now.  Steve contacted me.   Back out there in 3 weeks for a couple of months.  Can't wait.  You and marianne never seem to be around when i am, although i did manage to meet maureen finally and be able to put a face to name.

Do you have the connection now and does it work ok?

full time residents pay €30 pm for 24/7 coverage. You can pay more if you need to download demanding movie packages etc but for email/surfing/Skype the €30 package is spot on

if on the other hand, like me, you are over for several trips a year, you can prebook coverage with Brian at €10 per week that you are there.

Suzanne

We're like ships in the dark - we're back out Aug 30 to Sept 7, any good ? Glad you got sorted out with the wifi. Yes, we're all connected up and working perfectly.

Will

Sorry, I meant to add to my last post :

Ask Brian to show you his Skype phone, it's the most brilliant dinky thing I've seen in eons. He's hoping to bring them in from China and retail out at about €30 or so.

What it is as a normal size mouse which you plug into a spare USB socket in your laptop.

When not using as a mouse, it flips out and becomes a full phone, fantastic. I've ordered one.
