Hello,

Thanks to Phil (PGM) for supplying room sizes, etc. Has anyone tried to fit any form of drawers inside their wardrobes???

Looking at the the depths of the wardrobes, there are two chest of drawers in the Ikea book on pages 164 & 175 that look as if they will fit. Can anyone suggest if this is something that can be done without too much bother. I'm looking to be able to just slide open the door of the wardrobe and be able to open the drawers....if that makes sense.

Regards

Phil & Debbie

Hi

Yes there is a set of draws in ikea that fits in the wardrobe in the main bedroom of the 2 bed but not the wardrobe in the 2nd bedroom as it is slightly smaller (jardins). The chest of draws is called Malm and is item 11 on page 165 of the 2009 catalogue. We bought 2 sets assuming that they would fit in both wardrobes but the doors in bed 2 are slightly narrower and although you can get the draws in you won't be able to open them

Hope this helps.

Phil

Phil

Thanks for the info. Having a look at the catalogue, this unit has width of 80cms. If I read you right, sliding the wardrobe doors open in bed 2 won't allow you to open them as the door will not slide along enough??

If that's right, they do this unit on the same page but item 8. The width on this is 40cms. Do you think this one will go in OK?

Thanks

Phil & Debbie

We bought a chest of drawers for inside the wardrobe in bedroom 2 from Brico on Camposol almost exact match for doors of wardrobe approx 59.00 euro's (DIY) in fact we bought a 2nd and use it as a bedside cabinet in bedroom 2-  and plan to buy another for the main bedroom wardrobe. Depending on what one you decide make sure the bottom drawer will open over the kickboard of the wardrobe- that nearly caught us out with one set of drawers we were looking at.

Hi Phil, Debbie & All

When I last went out I measured the inside of the wardrobes in our 2 bed apartment and below are the unit sizes I decided would fit inside and still allow the wardrobe doors to shut and the unit draws to open. I didn’t measure the lip height at the bottom of the wardrobe so if anyone has that measurement please let us know.

Bed 1

Unit max width 88cm - max depth 54cm

Bed 2

Unit max width 62cm - max depth 49cm

Hope this helps

Phil

Phil

Thanks for the additional info, should allow us to get correct size drawers.

Jan & Mike

Didn't think about the kick panel, I assume you mean the rail the doors slide along. Roughly, what height do you think we should allow for?

Thanks everyone

Phil & Debbie

Hi,Just check the depth of each of your wardrobes before you buy,I have fitted a few that have different depths and the owners have had to take them back to change.  Mark.

Sorry I cant add to this as we measured last October and thats the one I haven't got written down. However,  they are a four drawer style with a lip to each drawer rather than a handle and a close colour match. So if you can measure the kick board once at the apartment they should be fairly easy to find.

We are in a three bed in Jardines.

For all our wardrobes we bought malm three drawer units from Murcia Ikea. Fit perfectly and a good price.

We are in a 2 bed and fitted a Malm 4 drawer in the main bedroom and the tall thin 6 drawer in the 2nd bedroom.

Size and colour perfect

Hi guys

Sorry for going on over this but it sounds like the Malm units will fit OK but after reading some posts, I have two questions:

1. As long as you select the correct unit so the wardrobe doors slide back enough to allow you to fully open the drawers?

2. Can the bottom drawer be opened without snagging the runners/kick panel.

Geeky questions over...thanks!

Pete & Debbie:

Yes the doors slide back far enough, and the bottom drawer is not obstructed, as long as you use the 4 drawer in the main bedroom  robe and the 6 drawer in the narrower 2nd bedroom robe.

Pete:

Yes the rails run the full length of the robes.

Being a geek myself I have posted some pictures, dated today ,of the aforementioned self assembled drawers, in situ.

My finest self assembly achievement to date.
