Hello Everyone.

We are Greg and Ana from Number 16 (not sure which road yet).  We are hoping to complete next week and plan to make our first vist between 9th-16th December - Do you think this will be enough time to furnish it?

We are currently trying to sort out the Air Conditioning and have been told that we will need two units - one for lounge and another for the bedrooms -we have been quoted between 600 euros to 1000 euros per unit - Has anyone else tried to instal Air con yet and does this sound correct?

Incidently to give you a little bit of  Information about us,  We come from Portsmouth, although  Ana as you can probably tell is Spanish (By the way if anyone needs some help with the language whilst we are there she is more than willing to help out).

We have two young daughters - Maria (Nearly 3) who is already speaks Spanish and Elena who is just 6 Months.

Look forward to meeting you all soon

Greg & Ana

Hi, Greg and Ana

We have just arrived back after a 3-week period in Spain to move in and furnish the house.  We got the keys on the Thursday of our first week and spent a very large proportion of the remaining time furnishing it.  One week might be manageable with some very hard work.  You do have the advantage of Ana being Spanish which will help when you need to shout at the staff in Ikea!  Can't advise on the air conditioning since we left it for the moment and will have it installed in the Spring.

Best of luck with the move.

Martha

hi greg and ana

we have asked the builder to install air conditioning units in the living room and the three bedrooms of our townhouse  (no. 28) and the cost is 3,500 euros so i think your cost for two units is good. Actually starting to think that my quote is expensive as i do not know how many units that is for  ah well!!

vincent & brona (no. 28) - not due for completion until august 2007

Hi Greg, Ana, Maria & Elena, Hope your move goes okay and is not too stressful leading up to Christmas.  The quotes for the air con sound reasonable, at that price whoever gave you the quote may get more work on the complex, maybe worth asking if you were to get him more work could you get a discount, I for one would be interested as I certainly wont be going to the builder at those prices given to Vincent & Brona. Hope to meet you all next year, Pete & Sue (No 21)

Dear all,

our friend Jim the handyman (he's lived in Mazarron doing property maintenance for the last 2 and half years) told me that there is no need to pay thousands of euros for an AC installation for a house of our size (ours is a 3 bed townhouse). The units are cheap to buy and fitting them is fairly straight forward for an experienced tradesman. It seems that almost everyone fits AC out there so he advised to shop round - their quotes will start to fall once they realise they're in competition.

I'ts worth mentioning that there are a wide variety of air conditioning units. Cool only, cold and hot, with inverters (lower running costs), diferent sizes to suit volume of rooms, plus many different optional features relevant to various models.

Suggest you initially go to a few specialist companies to get idea of what you want, I would recommend Expert Marin in San Javier (on the way out to Santiago de la Ribera just past Britannia shop) they do speak English.

If you are not going to live here, you might not need the same specification that you would require if you where to live here, ie initial cost may be more important than running costs.

Hello Everyone,

The reason why there are so many different prices for Air Con is dependent on how many rooms you put it in and how many generators (I am not sure this is the correct terminology) you put on your roof.  We were told that you can have a 1 to 1 scenario.  Which means 1 generator to 1 Unit in a room or one to many (1 generator to Upto 5 units in the rooms).

We went for 2 Generators in 2 rooms.  This option is slightly cheeper and we are told that although the untis are in only 2 rooms if you open the doors the cold air swiftly moves throughout he house.  The other advantage with this is that if the generator breaksdown then you still have some airconditioning.

The one to many scenario tend to be more expensive and the generator on the roof tends to be much larger.

This is very complicated but I hope this explains it a bit clearer - Any Questions please let me know.

Greg & Ana

Hi folks

I was looking at my paperwork for the house last night as we are due to go out next weekend to have a look.. i previously said the cost for our air conditioning for the living room and three bedrooms was 3,500 euros. it is actually 4,900 euros (£3500). Any thoughts on this as i am sure i may be able to cancel and shop around?

Hi meveryone

Just back from a site visit to Balsicas - we chose the wrong weekend to go to spain  a storm decided to join us. it was very cold and windy. we were staying in a hotel on the sea shore and felt every bit of the wind!! We have taken some photos which i have uploaded. They are of our house - a bit selfish i know - ours is the one with the ramp. We met up with Alex & carol - thanks for the hospitality. We alos met with David & carol Acton who showed us their good work with regard to air conditioning units. David seems to know his stuff and i would recommend him based on what he showed us. Thanks for the chat David & carol.

We also bumped into Julie & Chris from Dublin who were checking out there house - plot 26.

We are looking forward to our next trip in March to see furhter progress. hopefully the weather will be kinder!!

Vincent & brona

Adios amigos,

Martha & I are just back from a week in 10 Calle Pedro Cano. It seems from the website that there were a lot of you around at the same time but for some reason we missed most of you. It was our daughter's, and boyfriend's, first visit to the house and they were impressed. Weather was good at the start of the week but broke last Thursday. Friday night was particularly stormy. When it rains there - it RAINS!! Saturday morning we travelled to Mazarron to visit friends and a lot of the roads were badly flooded. It was pretty cold too and we had to buy an oil-filled radiator and fan heater, which was just enough to keep us comfortable.

Still a couple of snagging items to be attended to - a chip in the marble washbasin surround in the downstairs toilet and a leak from the upstairs bathroom appearing from the dining table light fitting. We dropped into Taray's office in San Javier and a nice lady called 'Karin' promised to get these sorted for us. We also asked about the rubbish on the ground between the front row of semis and the railway line and she said the builder will remove it - but she couldn't tell us when!

News - the old house at the original entrance to the sales office car park has been demolished; the new bridge over the railway line is underway; the pool is complete but not the surrounds; there's still no telly signal in the middle block altho' the aerial has been erected; Ciara's moved to another site; much of the development is looking less like a building site now; and the other developper on the site is making progress. We heard rumours that there will be further development of the site between the castle wall and the railway line. Also that the railway line is being electrified - altho' I'm not sure what the impact of that will be. I've posted some photos of some of the changes.

Hope to meet up with more of you on our next visit! Just knock our door, we'll be delighted to see you.

Our air conditioning was fitted by David Acton, he has done a lovely job and we highly reccommend him. Also cleared away all his mess, more than we can say for the builders!
