Hi All,

Although I have seen similar threads they all seem to have come to a halt, are now talking about t'internet connections or refer to other developments so I thought I would start a thread specifically about television  on Condado and in particular on the Jardines.

I am aware that there are suggestions that Polaris somewhat dubiously charged €18 per month for satellite TV they didn't have the right to , and this service has been pulled. ( although this may have related to another development)So the question is what can we get?

Now before I ask the next question - I am not suggesting that we all put up satellite dishes on the back of the Pergolas ( even if they are the ones that ovrlook the car parks!!!) but ....is it possible to get any form of satellite TV or even better freesat where there is no monthly subscription ? I understand the size of the dish can be as small as 80cm but may be larger depending on the region and strength of signal ( although it is likely to be 120cm to get decent reception) - is it not possible to put these on the roof patio (out of sight), or is there a reason this cannot be done. If so does anybody know of a local installer/ costs?

Alternatively if there some sort of digibox we can get and if so how much does it cost, where do you get it and what channels can you get. The latter seems the easiest route if possible but I would be grateful if anybody could help.

P.S  would it be possible to get TV screens in the back of the headrests in a certain golden golf buggy?

Regards,

Hi Wiredout.

You can get a digibox - many of the tv's have them already, otherwise they cost about €30.  That will give you just under 30 channels, simply plug into the socket and it will scan for them.  All of the channels are in Spanish, but a few programmes have an English Language option - particularly disney channel.  Sorry, but I don't know anything about Satelitte options.

Ted

Ok,  lets assume that PW will let you do what you wish.

As far as freesat (as against freeview) is concerned all you really need is a Dish of at least 1.2m, an LNB (the little block opposite the dish) and a satelite receiver (a regular sky box will do).  You should (after some messing around with Dish alignment etc) be able to pick up most free-to-air channels.  However, to view certain channels (like channel 4, 5, fiver etc) you will need a viewing card registered in the UK (about £20).  They are still free to air channels but you will need the card.

If I were doing this for one of the appartments (ground and first floor type) then I would get together as a group and buy the biggest dish (say 2m) I could afford and one that wasn't going to take over the whole solarium.  Then buy a dual or quad LNB.  This will allow you to take two or four feeds from the one dish, which would give you one feed for each appartment or recever.

Anyway, don't want to bog the thread down, there are local companies that can do this, but I think the only hurdle will be PW and their regulations on what can be put up (plus the owner of the roof top property).  The other thing is that any dish over 1.0m would normally have to be floor mounted.

Regards,

Steve.

I guess the first thing to do would be to ask Polaris what their stance is and then take it from there. I know they have resisted allowing individual sat dishes, etc on other resorts but don't know how successful they've been or whether they are entitled to do so. I'd say ask them, get it in writing and take it from there. They will have a view as this is not their first resort...

Hi there Kev 1,

do you / anybody have a contact that you could ask as a starting point?

I suppose if the residents of the 2 bed apartments want a dish on the floor of their patio which is not visable from the ground then there should be no problem. However this is not quite so easy if you have a three bed ( unless you come to some arrangement with your vertical neighbour ).

Are there any plans for Polaris to offer any access to uk channels - perhaps this question could be asked as well?

I hope I can help. I´ve got a place on La Torre and PW started by getting the community to prevent meshes and dishes from being installed.

They now offer a digibox costing c400€ one-off cost with no subscription that shows BBC ITV and a few ´less popular´satellite channels. They have also linked up with a cable firm ´Surpris´ where for installation of c100€ and 18€ pm you get the premium sports and some premium film channels and a few other ´more popular´ sky channels but you need the PW box.

Also, I think that you can plug into the main PW satellite dish on the resort with your UK sky box and card and receive a lot of the channels (but not BBC, ITV etc). I´m not sure if that still applies but a few months ago whilst I still had a sky subscription I was  able to use this.

However, because of the delay in getting this all set up they have now agreed that meshes in non-communal areas can stay (not sure about dishes).

As PW have now experienced this at other resorts my guess would be that they will strongly promote their digibox and cable offer and come down hard on dishes.
