I took a walk around the Site, the day before yesterday. Work on the Suites, appears to have stopped or is about to. I presume they are going to put it into "Mothballs" and hope for a future upturn. RNA Vans are still in evidence at C.D.S so I presume Clients are still Completing. The Gardeners were not in evidence, perhaps they were fatigued and needed a break. I saw some Sunbathers inside a fence surrounding a Swimming Pool, no supervision needed. There was no buzz about the whole place, indeed some of the Residents were looking at me with suspicion, I don't know why, I didn't have my bag marked Swag with me, nor a hooped jersey and jemmy. I noted several doors that had been jemmied and there were steel window bars everywhere. A fortress mentality and not without good reason. I later had a chat with a local business woman. Her family have had their property, in the general Manilva area, on the market for over a year. They has had one viewer, who was just a "Waste of Time". She cannot see an improvement in the market for some time, indeed several Local Estate Agents have closed or downsized. Sorry about the gloom and doom. At the moment this is a Buyer's market or should they wait even longer?

Chills,

We are feeling sorry for ourselves, aren't we ?  Those sunbathers weren't looking at you suspiciously, just probably wondering why you looked so sad. As for the bars, do you know of anywhere in that part of Spain where no-one has bars on their windows ?  From casual observation it seems to be the norm, a Spanish thing.

Cheer up, count yourself lucky you didn't buy in Iraq 10 years ago.

Sorry Hampos, been visiting this Country, working, visiting and even living here for nearly for 40 years I still may not have your level of expentise. Please see some photographs, above, of my current complex in SPAIN without Bars on their windows but there again, what do I know? Are you infering there is a connection between C.D.S. and IRAQ?

Hi everyone

I've been reading with interest all posts associated with CDS as I'm booking a stay with my young family.

Hopefully by the time we get there the 'ghost town' will have a few fellow 'tourists' like me about and prospective thieves dispersed a little more.

Now I don’t want to start a  but I really can’t understand how you owners are happy to have a group of photos showing another complex. . A very nice looking complex at that.

Please someone who owns an apartment in CDS post some updated photos of the CDS complex. Or is it truly that bad that you don’t dare.

Just a little note from one of many who surf the net and can reject your complex at a flick of a button. Happy letting folks!!!

or are you just interested in flogging your 'poor investments'

Just returned from a two week stay in an apartment at CDS owned by friends. We last visited in May 07. We arrived at 01:30 am and were observed by the security patrol as we accessed our garage, nice to see he was awake. Next morning the gardeners were out and about early, and their efforts certainly show - the grass has improved dramatically since we were last there, and some of the weedier trees have been removed. They appear to be improving the barren areas outside the portals by laying a layer of white stone around the flower beds, and it looks quite attractive.

In the first week it was fairly quiet (helped by the lack of work at the suites behind us) but things got much busier after the UK schools broke up, and when we left yesterday "our" pool (Blocks 28-32) was being very well used. A bit too well at times, since it appeared that people from other areas of the site were using our pool in preference to their own, leading to overcrowding and a shortage of sun loungers. A couple of days before we left a notice went up making everyone aware that the area was reserved for residents of our blocks,  but this could turn into a real problem at busy times of the year - and nobody wants to see towels on loungers at 7 in the morning. Apart from this minor niggle, we were very comfortable and safe, at least until the apartments directly above and to the one side of us were occupied! This showed up a lack of sound insulation between the apartments as we were disturbed by the snores and nocturnal activities of our new neighbours.

We don't mind bars on the windows, in fact with two children we welcome the extra security, and they have been a feature of every apartment and villa we have rented in Spain and Portugal in the last twenty years. I'm also told that the culprits behind the recent spate of LCD TV thefts have been caught and that they are very local...

In short, the place was far from a ghost town, is being well maintained, and we had a very pleasant stay. We'll certainly consider going back again next year.

Oh, and people were mentioning a bloke called Norman who keeps slagging off the development. Does he own property at CDS?

Dear Kit,

no I did not buy my "highest luxury, top specification, penthouse apartment on the closed site holiday complex with every possible holiday facility" available to me. Simply because it does not exist at Casares Del Sol, nor ever will.

What is supplied is just not worth the asking price or the struggle of paying a mortgage for. Not viable in my view.

We already knew that the construction was so poor that it did not keep the weather out, now we know that it does not even keep out the sound of heavy breathing and other domestic noises.

Thanks again to Kit, we now know also that the result of "cutting pools and increasing blocks" puts pressure on pools and spaces, exactly as expected.

Still its great to hear of good grass progress, criminals caught and apartments used by good friends. Keep it up everyone.

No one wants to see it deteriorate, its just nothing like the specification and not for me.

Regards to all

Norman
