Golf & Spain - Cantabria
Wednesday, May 20, 2015 @ 1:01 PM

Cantabria is the birthplace of one of the best golfers of all time, Severiano Ballesteros.

Here you can discover the place where this champion played his first strokes, and enjoy practising your favourite sport at the same time. It is not only on the green that you will have a good time. You can also discover a region of spectacular landscapes, with some of northern Spain's most beautiful beaches, and natural and cultural riches that will captivate your from the moment you arrive.

There are different courses to choose from. They are very close to each other, perfectly integrated into their surrounding countryside and suitable for all levels: from courses that are a real challenge for professionals, to gentler ones, ideal for beginners. The majority have wonderful sea views, making the game even more attractive, if that is possible.

You can see for yourself in the regional capital, Santander, where you will find the Mataleñas Golf Club, with stunning views of Santander Bay, Magdalena Palace and Sardinero Beach. Meanwhile, on the other side of the bay, the Pedreña Royal Golf Club and the Junquera Course await you, 20 kilometres away by road or a short ride on the regular ferry service that crosses the bay. You do not need to go far to multiply your golfing options. Courses like Abra del Pas, less than 15 minutes from Santander, or Santa Marina, in the picturesque village of San Vicente de la Barquera, are some of the other places nearby to practise with your clubs.

Take the opportunity to discover Cantabria's many attractions between one hole and the next. There is a long list including modernist monuments such as Gaudí's El Capricho in Comillas, and gems of prehistoric rock art like the famous Altamira Caves in Santillana del Mar, along with unique nature areas like the Oyambre Nature Reserve and the Liencres Dunes Nature Reserve. In this part of northern Spain you will find everything you need to enjoy an unforgettable golfing holiday.
