Biking & Baking in Las Alpujarras

We've been in Spain for over 4 years now - plus 4 motorbikes - and a horse - join us for the ride!

2nd trip
Monday, May 17, 2010 @ 1:53 AM

Steve has set off on the second trip with the last of the furniture. We still couldn't get everything in – my beautiful terracotta garden pots had to be left behind – and there was a strenuous late night session loading the VFR onto the trailer and strapping it down securely. If anyone sees a red van heading south over the next 2 days with a dark green motorbike up behind, give him a wave and a toot – must be the man.

We saw all sorts of magic in the landscape last time: olive-patterned green and cream hillsides, forests of wind turbines, lightening-flashed Zaragoza and snow in the Pyrennees – and of course the peerless blue of Alpujarran skies. I am desperate to get out there for good and start to fill the balcony, terrace and courtyard with flowers!

Because we are limited to the basics in the kitchen here now, it's almost a case of peasant living – a single bowl and 2 forks! One of my favourite standby's is beef mince, a tin of chopped tomatoes, onions and garlic (sliced fine) and some fresh spaghetti with grated parmesan or grana. Always popular and quick – especially after furniture moving!

Our van and trailer are on Ebay for the next 7-10 days so if you need a GB reg vehicle that's reliable and/or a good bike trailer, I am sure you will track them down.

Good to see someone else having this adventure.
We live in Turon (very small village near Beninar reservoir, which is a few miles north of Adra)
We've got a garageful of household 'stuff' in our house in North Devon, which we going to be self driving in a one way hire van from there to Turon via the Santander ferry.
What we need to know is, just exactly what documents do we need to have with us to cover our load.?? Vehicle docs/driving licence/passports etc is one thing. But what is needed to cover what is in the lorry....??
What did you discover you needed in the way of paperwork..?
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Clive. Many. many apologies for never replying. Somehow I missed this in all thee travelling and upheaval. Expect you made a safe trip and discovered that you don't need any special paperwork. It's usually the French who make problems so Santander is a good option!!
Are you settling in OK and pleased with everything so far? Lots to learn in a new country. Do you speak Spanish? We don't know Adra except from the history books - must have a look sometime. Do you bike?
Keep well
Casalinda
