Medical Information:

You can only use NHS GP practices in Spain if you are registered with them. To register at least 1 member of your family must be officially resident in Spain and paying National Insurance. That rules most of us out.

As Max says you can call an ambulance (0034902505061 is the number on the notice board which it would be smart to store in your mobile phone). It will take you to an NHS hospital where your treatment will be covered by your European Health Insurance Card (available FOC. Apply online at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers if you haven’t got one).

If you need urgent treatment, want to use your EHIC, but calling an ambulance in not appropriate you can go to a casualty facility. I am told the nearest is at Las Lagunas Hospital which you get to by going along the N-340 to the Hipercor junction then going down towards Fuengirola. I didn’t actually go looking for it but it’s somewhere in that area.

If you have travel insurance, or are willing to pay, one of the private clinics may be more appropriate. Angels Nocturnas is English speaking and open 24\7 and comes recommended. The easiest (but not shortest) route to it is along the coast to the London Pub, turn right then right again at the traffic lights, pass Spainsbury’s on the right then the clinic is on the right. If you need to go to hospital they will direct you to the most appropriate facility so even if you have insurance carrying your EHIC card is a good idea.

Thanks for that David. It really depends on the country where you live so if our Danish/Dutch/Swedish/American/Canadian/Belgium/Irish and Finnish posters (forgot someone?) know it works for them please post so. We can then make a specific thread for it with all the info.

An often asked question is why don't you do airport runs.
The answer is simple: it's illegal and a danger for us (we could loose the car) and a big danger for the passengers as they are not insured. On Malaga airport they check regularly on the 'i'm just bringing my friends over' kind of services and we don't want to take the risk nor have our passengers be the victim of an uninsured accident.
As Malaga airport has very effective number plate scanners it's a matter of time before we would be discovered and after an accident it would be all too easy to look at the registered camera data.
A quote '

Please note that the taxi/private hire laws in Spain are very strict.  There are numerous illegal Companies on the Costa del Sol openly advertising on the internet as legitimate taxi/transfer companies.  There are also apartment owners & letting agencies offering cheap transfers, these are also illegal.

Malaga Airport is patrolled continuously by the police & government inspectors looking for illegal touts.  If a Transfer Company asks to meet you anywhere apart from the designated area in the arrivals terminal, they will be illegal, (even if they use the excuse that this is due to building work), their vehicles will also not be insured for passenger liability cover.  You should remember that if stopped by the Guardia Civil (Police) the vehicle would be confiscated immediately leaving you stranded.  A vehicle that is licensed will be SP (Servicio Publico) plated by the Spanish Authorities and you can always ask to see a copy of the Companies "Targeta de Transporte" license if you are concerned. Please dont ruin your holiday before it has started."

Often asked by PM:

Q: Is there a chance the developer will go broke when we file a lawsuit?
A:  I'm not clairvoyant, but so far the developer has still lots of unsold apartments in phase I and II which would easily cough up the necessary money when they have to auction them. So I don't so.

Q: At the upcoming EGM will people who are behind with payments be allowed to vote?
A:  The law says no and although our administrator at earlier meetings was quite tolerant I think it would be wise to be strict this time. 'Nuria no pay, Nuria no vote' as Maximo so dramatically shouted at another EGM should be applied to everyone. There will be people who wanted to pay but just failed to do so for whom this rule is unfortunate. As a general principle however it is too important to ignore. Next time at the AGM we will have to decide on going to court for debtors. It would be surreal if they themselves could block that decision.

Q: How late closes the swimming pool?
A: The sign says 20.00u but there is no one to close it at that time. Our security guard complained so hard about the heat at seven o'clock that the president rescheduled him to 23.00 (saving us money).

I try to convince the committee that in July and August 21.00 is a more realistic closing time (quite usual in urbanizations) and that our security guard should start at that time and close the pool.
We already had some incidents where people dived into the pool very late at night and that is a disturbance for the people living close by. It also poses a big risk as at that time alcohol will often be involved.

Just came across this interesting site: http://www.spainlawyer.com/guialegal/guialegal.cfm?IDCAPITULO=04070000 (copy & paste it in your browser if the link does not work) which has interesting information regarding the laws that govern communities and also this one:http://www.c-euro.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32&Itemid=37. According to the information in the 1st site (see point 10.2) it specifically states that those that are behind with their community fees can not vote for a secretary or administrator but does not mention that they are not able to vote for any other matter.

Max you may be right, found another site with an English translation of the actual Horizontal Property Law. This is point 15.2 in its entirety: 15.2: Unit owners who at the time of the meeting is called to order are not up-to-date with payments of outstanding community assessments and have not judicially challenged them or consigned the amount thereof in court or with the notary public shall be allowed to take part in the debates but not to vote. The minutes of the meeting shall record the names of the unit owners deprived of their voting rights, and neither the person nor the respective assessment quota shall be used to compute the quorums for majority votes prescribed in this Act.
