I've just pasted the main parts of an e-mail that I received today.  More info will be coming shortly from

http://www.colladosbeach.com/

A few things strike me about this - firstly the transport from Roda (cost 12 euros) only runs in July and August.

Secondly, judging by the website, the beach club does not appear to be exclusive to the owners / renters at Roda (I guess it has to make a profit).

Thirdly, I thought that the original intention of the beacj club was that it would be managed / run by De Vere.

Hope this info is useful - Russ

Hi Shannon

Read the bar opening times again - I think it says 11.30 am in the morning till 1.30 am the next morning - I would say that is good news?  surely?  Or have I misread it?

Hi all,

Last year I posted a letter on the forum regarding the fact that the beach club was not for the exclusive use of the owner's and renters at Roda.  At that time we were told that the pool area was for our use, but that was not correct as we could not get a sunbed as they were all taken by people some of whom had come off boats. We were given wrist bands to show that we were from Roda. But the majority were not wearing these, but no one was policing this. Hope that now changes with the new management.

Regard.

Hi All,

I will be in Roda tomorrow for a few weeks and was really looking forward to spending a couple of days at the Beach Club, does anyone know how else to get there since Roda are not providing transport and I don't fancy driving there?

PS.  Obviously at this time all of the Beach Club is open to the public being that owners cannot get there which is an absolute joke, 5* Resort my a**e !!!

Hi All

If you go on to webpage www.calidona.es

You will see there is transport,  BUT  not free,   it is by Coach/Boat/Coach and costs EURO 12 EACH PERSON

So much for the private exclusive beach club for owners only !!!!!

If you go on the web and go to the right hand side and click NEWS ,details of the opening and transport  will be listed

It is run by the same company that manages the Golf Club Restaruant and while it is a vast improvement and I hope they can do the same with the Beach Club, its not what I paid for I was sold De-Vere and told they would manage the PRIVATE CLUB

No matter they have my money now they can do what they please

Cheers

PS sorry if you want to go in June or Sptember tuff luck make your own way there , The sevice is only for July and August

Hi Jored,

I've went to the Beach Club last year by the 12 euro buss/ferry and it was great but that's what I meant by it being a joke now, transport only in July/August, how the heck are we meant to get to it without a long drive and even if we do drive we can't enjoy a drink in the bar or restaurant cause we'd have to drive back, they may as well only open it in July & August.

Go to

Send them a comment on the provided form and see what response you get. May not be sensible but the more people who comment the more they may get the message. After all the Sports facilities have finally been built following pressure from their Spanish Owners who are also keen users of the Beach Club.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if you can take a bike on the boat over to the beach club?. We  are going to Roda next week and are also disappointed that Roda are not providing transport until July.  There is a boat from San Javier to La Manga but I'm not sure if there is any transport at the other side.

Also, last year someone mentioned on a thread (which I can't find)  that they bought an electric barbecue. Does anyone know where we can buy one as it would be a lot less hassle than having to buy a gas cylinder.

Thanks a mil,

Ann

Hi MarcoPolo ,

Yes agree , The problem with driving ( as well as not being able to have a glass or two of wine etc ) is if you do decide to drive "The La Manga Strip " in July and August can be manic and take over two hours !!

I agree with Hugh_man a,s well as complaining  here we need to let Roda no the problems , Enough of us keep telling them what they are, we may, just may get them to listen

Also maybe we can let the Guys running the Restaraunt no that we all would use the Beach Club more if transport were provided for the whole season just not the 2 peak months

The problem with Roda is the lack of responce to their Clients needs etc , If they just listened, they would get a lot less flack from Owners and Renters

I shall also speak to our President on phase 1 and ask him to apply some pressure

Happy holidays MarcoPolo

Cheers

You can take a bike on the ferry. In fact they also rent bikes and if you rent off them they transport it for free. Otherwise there is a charge to bring your own bike on the ferry. Think its about 2 - 3 euro.

We booked our holiday this year for end May to 7th June on the basis that the beach club was opening 1st June (as originally advised)  We are non golfers but loved the beach club plan when we bought on Roda - despite 4 trips now have been unable to find out if it lives up to our expectations as it's always been closed.  As you can imagine on 30th May when we found out the opening was delayed another week until 8th June we were livid!.....we got on the web site and made our comments known as per hugh-mans suggestion.........

.......still waiting on a response!!

Just to let you all know have just got back from Roda and the Beach Club finally opened on the 10th of June. We drove over but the ferry was running for the 12 euros as before.

When we arrived there was still a bit of work going on welding and flower planting and they did not manage to open the bar until 1pm by then we were gasping having got there at 11am.

However it was lovely there and really does give the 5* feel to it. I was disapointed at the restaraunt as they only offered a full meal with 3 starters lobster oysters ect ect. but we only wanted a light lunch and they could not offer us anything so we had to leave the club to eat elsewhere!! It was there first day so will give them a little time to sort and I am sure they will. I know it is unique club but they really need to cater for all and lobster for lunch is not what I want when by a pool!!

Hi All

Looking for an update on how the Beach Club performed during July and August and anybodies thoughts on it. Does anyone have any up to date prices for food or copies of a menu.

Was also wondering when they plan to close it down for the winter period.

Regards

June

We were there a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely time - the Beach Club is stunning and a great day out. However, we were disappointed about the number of cigarette butts all over the place and the beach could have been a bit cleaner. Also, we ate at the beach bar - very expensive - approx. 10-12€ for a basic baguette with no fries (6€ extra) and no salad garnish. The restaurant menu looked superb but obviously for a special meal - set menu was 58€ if I remember correctly.  Defintely worth a day trip but take lots of cash or a picnic!

Hi

We have just come back from Roda and spent a day at the beach club.

It could be really fantastic and for the most part it is.  The trip over was enjoyable and worth the 12 euros we thought as it was like a trip out.

We saw an empty restaurant possibly because it was much too expensive.  Maybe it does O.K. at night but we think that it would do much better during the day if it did an affordable menu del dia or something.

The so called snack bar was also too expensive and no real choice. 7euros for a bread sandwich (but they had no bread).  10 euros for a small baguette. We had ham and cheese baguettes between two of us which was very basic.

The sea is disgusting. Our son in law is used to using heavy plant with his business and said that, in his opinion it could easily be sectioned off and a section cleared out of the seaweed and new sand brought in.  Another idea was to build a 'jetty' out past the rocks so that you can reach the sea at the other side of the rocks.

However, the staff were really nice and the pool area great. Sunbeds were available for all.  The Club is open to only 100 people and the swimming pool was sectioned off to prevent outsiders coming into the outside part of the club. The restaurant is open to the general public and they say that they are watching to prevent restaurant users who are not from Roda 'sneaking' into the pool/beach area.

We did walk through the seaweed almost to the rocks (mind your feet near the rocks as sharp rocks are there) and saw the most curious creature swimming in the water. It was dark reddish brown and looked like a rude part of a mans body with wings.  It swam very slowly in a lovely delicate way using its 'wings'. (a bit like a sting ray but much more dainty.) About the size of a mans hand.   Does anyone know what it was? I'd love to know.

Any way - the concensus of opinion from many people around us and ourselves was that - yes - it is a lovely day out but the facilities are much too expensive so they and we would only revisit very occasionally if at all.  However we would if there was  much more affordable refreshments and the beach and immediate sea was cleared.
