Hi all , AT LAST we are in the process of buying a house , taken years of looking , one failed purchase due to lack of Legal Papers , mind you , this one we found last year we were assured all papers and Legal stuff all there , needless to say it wasnt so just as well we declined the 3000 euros asked by Agent to remove property from market , but Vendors seeing to it all , so far so good !

Now we are in a quandry as to which Bank is safe, civil and doesnt rip one off , we need to open an Account for things only like Direct Debits for Utilities and a bit for building works as and when we need to pay our Builder.

Does anyone in the area of Denia, Pego and Oliva ( Alicante Province) recommend one that has English speaking staff , a bank that does not make extortiante charges for the slightest thing as is efficient and hopefully can deal online from UK?

Cam Bank was most we heard of but reading blogs about them in Pego quite put us off, rude, indifferent staff , not helpful and make lots of costly mistakes , cant be bad for everyone surley ?

If anyone out there has some good advice it would be very much appreciated !

Friends in Iznajar use UNICAJA but sadly they are mainly Andulcia , only brances in Alicante city and Valencia , bit far for a chat if one needed to !

Hi,

I agree that lloyds international is a very good bank.

all staff have to speak english.

we have been with them for 5 years now.

3 years as non resident and last 2 years as a resident.

never had any problems with them.

have a look on their website www.lloydsbankinternational.es

good luck

I use CajaMurcia and I find them very helpful. I think they also have offices in Alicante Province and most staff have very good English. In addition to this they have a very good online banking system which can be operated in English.

Thanks for the info but we have UK Banks already who will transfer to Spain, we dont want to open another and have to upgrade to a Premier Account , we have that with Barclays , we need something like Cam , any info on them, no charges we hear and all utilities paid by Direct Debit, anyone know of Cam in Denia, hear they are very good and all speak English in the main branch .

Thanks Vee x

Not sure what your criteria are. Cajamurcia as somebody says is fine, now Banco Mare Nostrum. All Spanish banks have to observe direct debit rules, and you can instruct a reversal with immediate effect. You get the reference for utilities on the online banking system.

CAM was just subsumed I think. Masssive bank consolidation going on here. Best to walk into a local branch and ask.
