Does anyone know how much La Caixa charge for transferring around 550 euros to a UK account (Natwest) via online banking. I've been told by Natwest there will not be a charge for receiving the money.

I had to pay a check into my La Caixa account which didn't have time to clear before I left Spain. I'd like to have an idea how much they will charge so that I can transfer the balance over to Natwest and ideally close the account.

Thanks,

Thomas

We've taken money out and topped up our Spanish account and got a very good exchange rate but those days are long gone since Nationwide now charges for withdrawals abroad.

More recently we opened an account with Santander UK and are now considering closing our Solbank account and transferring it to Santander ES since transfers are free..........however I need to investigate the other charges I might incur with Santander ES first. Been ripped off with Solbank's charges and whilst their service is excellent I'm not prepared to pay their rip off prices.  Also as mentioned below, I need to find out more about how favourable or otherwise their conversion rates are (for example is it free because they offer a c*** rate LOL).

Does anybody have any info?

All, Who do you think offers the best all round deal at present?  Oh yeah and they must have a reasonable online site ;-))

Hi,

If you are using La Caixa's Lineal Abierta on line system the charge should not be very high.

I transferred a similar amount from La Caixa to a Deutchebank account and the service charge was just 3 euros...

This transfer was though, wholly within Spain and all in Euros, so there will be charges relating to the exchange rate for transfers into a UK account. There shouldnt be that much difference though because its all done using the IBAN system.

You will need the IBAN number of your UK Bank Account to carry out the transfer and the beneficiary name which presumably will be the accunt name. You will also need your Linea Abierts Code Card because at some point you will have to refer to a line number they quote to key in the corresponding 4 digit code.

As I recall, during the online form completion the charges involved are displayed before you actually proceed with the transfer so you could always stop the transfer if the charges are too high.

Hope this helps...

Thank you all for your advice. You've been very helpful. I'll return once I've done it and let you know how much I was charged.
