I shopped around and settled on Hamilton's in Sabbi.  They offer all types of insurance from a basic holiday home apartment cover that cost 100 euros for the year to tailoring your own policy.  Here is her email address debbie@hamilton-insure.com.
and here is there web site http://www.hamilton-insure.com/.

Just about to go down the route of Insurance now. I wondered how other people have proceeded. I am going to use Hamilton's (thanks Lourdan) but do I just do contents, or do I do both? I am not sure if the collective will do buildings and put it into the running costs. Any input, anyone? Margo

Margo, I would suggest that you go into Hamilton's when you are there and have a chat with Debbie about your own specific needs with regards to you new home in Spain. Hamilton's are very good and offer several different policies tailor made to your requirements. They also offer a policy that covers a holiday home in Spain that is not be rented, it is reasonably priced at 100 euros for the year and it may be a good platform to start with. What you have to consider is each individual/apartment has a different situation and what may suit one individual/apartment may/maynot be sufficient for another.

Thanks Lourdan. I will do that. Presumably they will be able to advise me about buildings insurance, and how most people deal with that initially. Margo
