Hi everyone  , we are buying a 2 bed in Naranjos Jardine 7 and are hoping it will be completed in the last trimester of this year. As thats 4 or 5 months away we were wondering are we better off buying all out there in Spain when we go out or should we start picking up stuff here at sales and special offers and stuff and buying a big left hand drive estate and bringing as much as we can out with us. How does the price of stuff in Spain compare with Irish or UK prices especially regarding homeware, kitchen, barbecue and garden furniture stuff. Is it possible to get a detailed inventory of all the required stuff for  2bed appartment anywhere.

Hi Ruairig. We have a 2 bedroom apartment and we're completing in 2 weeks. We decided months ago to buy the majority of our furniture here in the UK. Our main reason for buying here and not Spain was to make sure that we got the exact furniture that we wanted..... It means we'll be arriving in August with everything that we want - and we don't have to spend our time shopping and perhaps deciding on furniture that we "don't quite want" because we need it quickly. Also, we were very sure on the type of living room suite that we wanted. We've bought a box trailer (off ebay), we'll pack it full of our stuff, and drive it out there. We'll sell the trailer on ebay as soon as we return - so not much money lost there.... Overall, we think we've done very well for the prices of our furniture. There have been a lot of good sales recently - Especially at ILVA and and the recent 21years IKEA sale. The only things that we still have to buy are... TV (was unsure about the different system), washing machine/fridge (although, we have bought a beer fridge for roof terrace which will get us through the first days) and beds (Our 3 piece suite has fold out bed for first days). We have absolutely everything else... Bedside cabinets, dining table and chairs, microwave, down to the knives & forks, and bottle openers... The only problem that we've found is that our garage is absolutely bunged - and we can't fit anything else in it!!!
On the other side. I know there is a lot of good furniture out in Spain (if you exclude some of the stuff they have in the show apartments - designer needs to be sacked!). And I guess with shopping around, there will be a lot of bargains to be had also.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

If you go to the PW website you can find an inventory of what you will need - I think it's under their rentals section - they give you a list of the minimum they require to let the property.

Hi Ruairi

Welcome to the forum, hope you fined it helpful and friendly.

Firstly I have done a spreadsheet of all the furniture and furnishings we believe we need for our 2 bed apartment but as I presume you are a new member of EOS your Private Message system will not be working, as EOS don’t activate this at first to prevent spammers. But when it is working if you whish you can PM me your email address and I will email the file to you.

I don’t think there is a great deal of difference in the cost of furniture and furnishings between the UK and Spain even with the poor exchange rate its just finding what you want at the price you want to pay. That said I don’t know much about costs in Ireland.

You can buy furniture packs but you have to shop around for the one you like it’s a minefield, a number of people on EOS have made recommendations of firms they recommend, most of the ones I have looked at when I have been out in Spain haven’t impressed us they have either been to expensive for the quality or a bit cheap and nasty the place we are going to use is in Torrevieja called Je Ne Sais Quoi Interior Design, its not that they are better than ALL the rest but they have researched the Condado development very well and no exactly what will fit, they will replace anything you don’t like when you see it in your apartment. We are not getting everything from them just the things we like they are very flexible.

IKEA has a dig new store in Murcia, which is very good and lots of other independent stores to look at in the Murcia area.

Time is an issue if you are not moving out to Spain permanently then you may well only be out for a few week at a time which makes it difficult to order and have items delivered whilst you are out their (6 weeks delivery ish?)

Buying at home and shipping it out. The cost a firm taking your things out is in the region of £1500 to £3000 from info on the forum but my research for me is about £2500 which isn’t my preference. Taking it out yourself, well you would have to have a good size vehicle to take everything, fuel and distance would soon notch up the cost especially if you have to return the vehicle or have to do more than one trip. We are going to take a number of items we are buying at home over in the car at some point but we intend to make this trip a short holiday in its self going to see places on the way.

There is a lot to be said for buying furniture locally as it is designed for the climate in Spain this is especially true for outdoor furniture I thick. Electrical and White goods I would only buy in Spain as if they go wrong UK warranty will probably not cover them and they certainly will not come out to do repairs.

The big decision is what you are using your apartment for: personal use, rental or to live in permanently. All of these make a big difference to how you furnish your apartment.

Hope this helps

Phil

Hi Ruairig,

Like PGM we are buying from Je Nais Sais Quoi. Funnily enough following the posting of measurements on this site we started to think about the furnishings we'd booked and revise what we wanted. We have had several very fruitfiul exchanges with a desginer there who couldn't be more helpful.

They are extremely flexible and whilst they are a bit more pricey that some of the others we've seen the bonus for us is that they deliver, install / fit and take the packaging away so you are paying for the goods and the service. From a convenience point of view this is priceless for us.

We have also bought a 2 bed in Naranjos (garden 4). Same offer as PGM once you PM is up and running more than happy to send the plans on that they have reworked for us and contact details if you wish.

Kind Regards

Gary & Angela

Hi all

We have bought in Jardin 04 but have been told that we won't be completing until at least Jan 09 so we have not thought about furniture yet.  But we will definitely buy what we need in Spain as here in Ireland the prices are way too high.  Also we are new to this forum and this is our first message.  Look forward to any helpful information as this is our first time buying property abroad.

Si & Olive

How up to date is the date you have been given for Los Naranjos. Myself, and others have been told that most of this phase should been handed over by the end of the year.

Hi Phil

Si spoke to PW office in Dublin last week and they said that apartment may be ready in Jan 09 but that would be the earliest date.  They had spoken to Spanish PW . However they seem to be ahead of schedule so you never know.  As regards swimming pools, they are not changing any or losing any in Los Naranjos.
