In May we are due to begin snagging with a view to occupying our property in June. We understand that to complete you need an NIE number. I have done some research on the web and it would seem that there are some variations on the advice given. We would like to go to the police station ourselves however our spoken and written Spanish is at present non-existent. Does anyone have experience of the process and which is the quickest and most painless way to proceed.

Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

We also obtained our NIE number via our Abogado. When we went to the place in Murcia, our Lawyer came with us and with all the forms pre filled out. The man at the desk did not seem to speak a word of english, so i am glad we had her with us. Then we got a form back from him, you then have to go to the bank pay a fee and get a receipt you have paid, then go back with the receipt to prove you have paid the fee, then they issue the NIE number the next day. Our lawyer did the bank trip and the later visits, we only had to be there for the first visit to sign the forms in the presence of the man, and also show our passports. We went along at about 1100hrs as that is seemingly when the queue is the shortest. We only had to wait about 10 mins. Seeminly the queue first thing in the morning is long as most people go early to try and be at the front of the queue. Our Lawyer is Gomariz Lawyers on +34 968 29 63 99 who are based in Murcia. They have been excellent so far.
