We are over in DV at the moment and have never heard so many barking dogs. Some are even barking through the night into the early hours of the morning. Others just bark all day and these dogs ARE in Duquesa Village so if you are planning a visit bring you ear plugs. It certainly ruined our peaceful trip!!

In my experience most dog owners just love their pet so much - the pet can do no wrong.

If you want to keep the nearby dogs to quiten down try one of these "silent dog whistles"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACME-535-Acme-Silent-Whistle/dp/B002LBCW4I

As one buyer wrote

"I bought this to try and control the noisy dog next door. It works a treat, the whistle can be adjusted to different frequencies by twisting the mouth piece. The sound can be set to loud and audible to the human ear down to silent to humans (but still loud to a dog). The silent setting was the one I used, as soon as the dog starts barking blow the whistle to attract its attention and it stops barking. Keep doing this every time the dog barks. It's doesn't hurt the dog and you don't have to have an argument with the neighbours. Ideal."

We are dog owners ourselves but do not allow our dogs to bark incessantly at nothing!  We have checked with our neighbours and when we leave our dogs in the garden they only bark when someone walks by.

My niece stayed in our apartment a couple of weeks ago and a colleague stayed there this week and both complained about a neighbour's chihuahua dog barking non-stop all evening when left on the terrace (block 10).  My niece tried to help/stop it barking, but without success.  Both informed me that it was a real nusiance but it wasn't until today when I was there that I heard the dog - all we did was open the terrace door and it barked non-stop - when we left the apartment some fifteen minutes later it was still barking!

I am going to have a word with the (I believe long-term) tenants next door but if this continues I shall be complaining to AEA and shall take it further.  No one should be subjected to this sort of nuisance - you cannot even sit on the terrace without the dog barking!  If the owners are unaware of how their dog behaves when they are not there, then they will find out this week - if they are aware and do nothing about it, then I will take it further.  There are many devices out there to train dogs not to bark!!

This was one of the dogs that barked constantly while we were staying in our apartment.  One of the other dogs was in a penthouse above us and this one continued to bark most of the night.  We are dog owners ourselves and would never leave our dog to bark continuously and upset our neighbours.  It completely ruined sitting on the terrace and was also difficult to sleep at night.  Are people who rent long term made aware of the rules of the community?  I would certainly think this would put off people who are on holiday returning for another visit.

Can people please ensure they complain to AEA about this problem?  I am in my apartment now listening to the chihuahua next door bark non-stop at nothing!  It has been left inside the apartment but can still be heard yapping constantly!!  At least AEA will email the owners about the complaint.  She told me that we should get security to call the police, particularly at night.  It is really unacceptable - that little dog must be really distressed!  Although at this moment I could quite happily strangle it!!!! 😕

I must admit that I do feel sorry for the dogs that are left on their own as it's not their fault.  Another problem is that especially at night when the sound echos, it's really difficult to pinpoint the apartment where the noise is coming from so we haven't reported to AEA.

I did a search on YouTube and found some video clips using free smartphone apps. The thing is ... they make dogs bark expecting the owner to tell the dog to stop barking -- bad plan. In Málaga, everybody has a dog, even the beggars have dogs. I saw one man and his barking dog looking at each other for about a minute once. WTH? The dog never did stop barking.

If you can see the dog, try a laser pointer when it starts barking. Not in the eyes, of course, but as a distraction from barking. I haven't actually done this, so it's just a suggestion.
