Insurance - long-term renters - help asap!!!

Hi

We are looking at renting out our apartment for 3 months, with possibly a further 3 and so on.

Is anyone else doing this, and if so, have you had to take out additional insurance cover to cover contents, damage etc.

If the tenant had an accident in the property of burned down etc, would our current cover be adequate?

Any advice would be most appreciated, and as quickly as possible as the tenant wants to move in on Monday.

When i enquired i was told i need to declare the apartment as a rental property and there would be specific details in the policy for this, and the Policy cost was a little higher than non renta.l Suggest you phone your insurer and ask them they should be able to upgrade your policy. over the phone.

One interesting thing to note is that if a renter steals your TV or anything else it is not classed as theft as you gave them the keys?

You will need a substantial deposit as security to cover such eventualities, also any excess on the insurance.

We had to declare that we might rent our apartment out during the year but it made very little difference to the premium.  This may have been because we were already under the category of holiday home.
