What's happened to car hire rates? We were out in Jan/Feb this year for 36 days and paid a little over  £300.00 for the period through Car Trawler. They now want £511.00 for the same car for the same duration, albeit in May/June. They having a laugh or what?

Any suggestions or alternatives out there?

Colin.

CENTAURO Car Hire is still the same for a Economic vechicle €109 for a week reducing if you have a longer hire period and are a member of the Gold Club!

colin,  we have used  doyouspain for a while now,  our next hire   = 9 days at the end of this month   ford fusion a/c or similar = 63€

Of course, you always have to add fuel in,  but we check the fuel tank capacity and fuel prices before we go and will argue the toss if they are charging exorbitant rates for full tanks.

Really can't find cheaper than this, but would love to know if  there is anything better.

Can anyone advise who the current preferred car hire company is for those who have rented recently.

I have gone through DoYouSpain three times now which led me to Solmar desk at San Javier. No problems with Solmar only if you are travelling with someone else leave them to recover baggage and proceed straight to the car hire desk yourself. Solmar always seems to have the longer queue. Speaks for itself I suppose . . . .

I have just checked the price we are paying for 6 days at the end of May with CarJet against a quote from this company (DoYouSpain) and they are 50 euros cheaper.

I wish I had booked with DoYouSpain now but I will certainly be changing my booking for the summer car hire.

Are they really reliable and not just cheap?? and do you actually get the car you want which is not always the case we have had in the past??

Further to my last post, DoYouSpain seem to be cheaper for short term car hire ie 7 days but checking my quotes for this year CarJet are better for longer term ie 3 weeks car hire by quite a bit so it seems you just have to shop around for the best quote for your stay.

I have always had the car I booked or a very satisfactory similar vehicle. There is always room for a first time disappointment though I suppose.  Whilst on the subject of car hire have you explored the www.insurance4carhire.com site. Usual disclaimer - I have no financial interest in them but it seems like a good idea to me. Will explore car jet for any longer stay.

I have used doyouspain for a number of trips and in a number fo different locations and had no problems. I also like the fact that you can leave the payment till you arrive if you wish - but this also means that if any offers come on or the price goes down you just rebook.

Thanks everyone - doyouspain seems to be reasonable. The fuel policy states it is receive full and return empty, is it possible to get the option to return full?

allan

The last twice they have advised us that if we take the car back full then they will refund the charge for the fuel - first was a weeks hire second for a few days.
