Hi All

Does anyone know whether the markets are open in the winter, if so what days and what times and where are they? Are any open Sunday mornings?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Deb

Hi Deb

We were in Mazzarron begining November and went to the market on Sunday morning at the bottom of the Hotel La Cumbra in Mazzarron. Not sure of any other dates. We managed to buy some nice sun loungers there for 50 euros each and they had been priced at 150 in other places we had looked, so well worth a visit.

Hope this helps

The local markets remain open throughout the year - the only time they may stop is on a fiesta day & sometimes they open on these days too.

Saturdays - Mazarron Town Market

Sundays - Puerto de Mazarron

Wednesdays - Totana

Thursdays - Alhama de Murcia

Sundays - Cañadas del Romero Boot Sale

All start early (9am ish) and start closing at about 2ish.

Just a word of warning..... pickpockets do operate in all markets (just the same at the UK) so please be careful with your valuables.

Have fun

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Again thanks for the useful info, but which one is the largest and best between the Mazarron and the Pt de mararron markets as I wouldn't like to visit both, ones plenty for me.

Thanks Ali

Alison,

Don´t know how Kathy feels but I personally prefer the Puerto market on Sunday.  We tend to visit the car boot ( plenty of new stuff too ) at Cañadas del Romero amd after coffee visit the market in the port. Then a stroll along the paseo and lunch in the sunshine. A newish  restaurant  on the paseo now serves coffee and brandy for only 2 euros, a  bargain!  Food also very good.

The Sat market in Mazarron town is OK and has pretty much the same stalls. Just a matter of personal preference really.

We had looked forward to visiting the P Mazzaron market on Sunday, so off we went with Ashleigh ( Carols daughter ) only to find it wasn't there.  It was the first Sunday since they've been there that Ashleigh had know it to be off. Typicall!   There was a fiesta in Bolnueva, sardine festival I think, so that is why the market wasn't on.  We did go to the boot sale,  quite busy, but not as busy as usual, we were told. Again because of the fiesta in Bolnueva

Like someone said earlier.. it´s really which you prefer. I like the Mazarron Saturday one cos it´s smaller & I know some of the stallholders. I also like to have my "pan con tomate" & cafe at the bar opposite the Post Office, which is a real locals place.

I haven´t made it to the Alhama one on Thursdays, as I work, but it´s really popular with my customers, as is the Totana one too.

There´s also a very small one at El Pareton on Friday morning, but that´s only fruit & veg.

Kathy

Nick ? Deb - I'll be out on 4/1/09 for a week. I'll be travelling on the Sundays, so won't get to any markets. If you discover any being held on other days, I'd appreciate the info - so I can go along and see what's on offer,

Peter

Hi Debs,

The market near la Cumbre Hotel is in Puerto de mazarron and on Sunday, when entering Pt de M at the roundabout go straight through and on the right hand side you will pass a Sol Bank, Supermarket, Plumes 4 and on the left there is an Aldi's and a florists, go past these and on the right hand side just over a very small incline the market should be sitting on the right hand side just past Muebles Yagar.

Hope this helps

Ali
