Hughes Satellite Internet Dish and DW6000Router. 5 yrs old. Good condition.

The dish is 1.20 metre wide, on a steel cradle, mountable on a wall or roof.  Weighs under 50 kg.
It needs a clear line of site to the southern sky to work. Your local Sat people can set it up, though there are also specialists all over Andalucia. Typical set up fee 300 €
Coaxial cable runs from the dish receptor to the modem router, and from there you can install LAN RJ45´s or set up wireless for your computers.

The connection speeds are fast, but choked depending on the subscription you pay to the hughes network provider. We paid about 100€ a month. The download we enjoyed was 512 k. Uploads are slower, and for this reason there is no chance of successful VOIP, ..people can Skype you , and you can answer, but all they will hear is a Dalek when you speak.

The benefits of an uncontended connection are that you have a service independent of and free from  traditional wired telephony. This system works without Telefonica ever having to be involved.

If you want to rent your property in Spain you need someone on location to ensure that the rental is a sucess. (cleaning, maintenance, key service, money handling, emergencies, etc). There are also compliancy issues (in Andalucia these are being enforced). The best people to help you are  businesses located close to your property who are geared up to rent it out on your behalf.

Many rentals management agencies are happy to let you do the promotion and marketing and even booking side your selves, providing there is fairplay and transparency with information sharing (the idea is to get repeat rentals from satisfied renters).

We will update this post should anyone wish to know more about how to rent out your property yourself via the internet, though the Eye On Spain site is a good place to start if you have someone on site to do the rest.

HOW TO REDUCE YOUR MOBILE PHONE BILL CONSIDERABLY.

This applies to those with with contracts that are closer to their expiry date than their start date, though we cannot verify this as it seems each case is treated individually.

We have done this with Telefonica, Orange and Vodafone over the past 3 years

1 Call your provider and have your account details handy. 

2 Ask to go "de baja" immediately and quote their competitors latest offer,  telling your provider that their competitor´s offer has made you decide to switch providers.

3 They should transfer you through to their "cancellations department".

4. Repeat step 2 above.  Ignore all offers they make you, continue to repeat step 2 above until they offer to reduce your phone bill for the remainder of your contract period. We found they offered about by 30%.

5. Send us a nice bunch of flowers. If we had done this sooner we would have saved hundreds of Euros!
