Gas providers

Hi all, since purchasing on Corvera Golf in the summer I have just received a bill from Virtus energia wanting €400 euros to be In a contract with them for my gas. I think this is robbery, does anyone know of any other service providers please?

We bought our property in June paid our solicitors for what we thought was the gas connection and meter and have also received an email on Friday, from Virtus Energia with an invoice for 400 euros which I also think is astronomical. I sent this to the solicitors and they say like yourself it's for the gas contract and the payment I made was for a surveyor to visit the property to check that it was safe to connect gas, which I find hard to believe as previous to my payment there was no gas connection or meter!

I'm confused as thought that the only bills I would now receive are for consumption of gas. Like yourself I am reluctant to pay this as not 100% sure how legitimate this is.

We bought last year completing in September. We got a bill for just over €400 in January. It seems this is normal - contract and meter install etc. Since then I usually get a bill for €8.47 every two months (standing charge) plus I've had one bill for usage in July this year.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, as you say it looks like we'll have to pay this but I think I was misled by the solicitors who did not bring this additional fee to light and I thought the amount I'd already paid was for the gas connection and meter.

Like Jamie I was surprised at this unexpected bill and the amount involved.

I received a refund from my solicitors/estate agent when they settled my account, some of this I believe was for the gas which I paid them for and then paid Virtus again!
