Electricity costs

We've only had our apartment for a few months and are trying to work out rough electricity costs. (2 bed on La Isla).   I know electricity is expensive (my Mum has had a property on Condado for several years).

Our first bill was at end of Feb and it was for €57.  We only bought the apartment at the beginning of December.  We were there for 5 days at new year and then 3 days in Feb.

Next bill was for €76 at end of April.  During this time, we were there for 10 days at Easter and then 3 days in March so I thought this was pretty high?  We don't have air con/heating. We are really careful with electric and switch off lights/tv etc.   We have a washing machine and dishwasher.   We have a timer on the water heater. We turn the electricity off when we go back to UK.

I know there are standing charges but not sure how much these are?  Is it cheaper to use washer and dishwasher over night? Please can anyone advise if these bills seem about right?

Your bills are okay. Spanish electricity services have increased the standing charges for normal rates but tye charges for tariff Noche ( similar to Economy 7) have stayed the same. If you dont rent out and are willing to stick to the cheap electric hours, approx midnight to noon, depending on season..the tariff Noche is great. Rates are approx 5 c at night and 20 c in day. Normal metres are about 15 c per unit.

We live here and I organise my cooking, washing, water heating around these times. If I were a visitor i would still use it.

If I was loaning my apartment to family, without the use of a card metre installed, I wouldnt be comfortable asking family not to use water heating etc during the day. Asking them only to use the aircon midnight to 1200 wouldn't be great either.

How would I go about switching to the noche tariff? Are there different times / prices for this tariff depending on the season then?

We will probably spend about 6/7 weeks a year at apartment. We may rent it out (occasionally) to friends and family.... So is it still worth us switching do you think? I've not really thought about a card meter but it is something I would consider.....
