FOREIGN CARS IN SPAIN

Hi everyone
I am thinking of buying a car to bring over to CDA from the UK
It is on French plates and has 2years French MOT on it
We intend to bring it over at Easter then leave it till the summer.When we return we intend to re-register it in Spain.
1. Do I have to re-register the car as we will only be using it for 2 months of the year

2. Will the French MOT suffice against the ITV or will I have to re-mot it in Spain

3. Can I not just drive it around for 2 years until the French MOT is out and then re-register it

Obviously it will be fully insured in our names to get it over there and I can renew that in the UK every year

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like it could be a minefield.  Buy Spanish?

1)   Under EU law the car should be registered in the country IT spends the majority of it's time.  So if it is going to be in Spain more than 183 days a year it must be transfered onto Spanish plates.  So you can bring it over at Easter and drive it around all summer but after that you need to re-register it. 

2)  You will need an ITV to re-register it.  The french MOT is only valid whilst it is on french plates.

3)  No.  Once it has been here 6 months it should be re-registered.

the above is assuming you do not have residencia, if you do then you have to re-register within one month.

How do you manage to Insure a French registered car in UK, I tried to Insure a Spanish car with UK companies and non would touch me?

Unless its becauase I am Spanish Resident?

I was intending to insure it through my AA account as Europe cover for the visits.
