Travel Insurance is important later but initially  in an emergency the hospital or doctors only want EHIC card and passport.  Keep it with you when out and about.  as well as photo id . I have seen passport page shrunk and laminated - better than nothing techically not valid but it has all information needed. 

 

Without EHIC card it gets complicated    European Medical Card-)
