Hello,

I am considering buying an apartment and have seen the Hacienda Del Alamo website which looks really nice and paints a very good picture of the resort. However, I have done a bit more digging on the net (hence finding this forum) and I am getting a slightly different picture. It would appear that a lot of the buildings are half finished with building work stopped and many completed properties sitting unsold and empty. I understand the Spanish Village complex has around 200 apartments completed but not one of them sold. One description was it is like a 'ghost town'. This in itself is not unusual in Spain at the moment but having read the posts on here there a clearly things happening and people are living there but I am looking for some honest advice. Can you give me an idea of what it is really like, what facilities are there and how is the place being run?

Thanks

Roy

Hi Roy

We had the same issues as yourself, we bought off plan in The Oasis 'El Oasis' just behind the Spanish Village back in 2007.  We completed early last year.

After the recession started we wondered if we had made the wrong move, as the value of the Euro to the GBP reduced by 25%.

We decided to go through with our purchase of our 3 bed 2 Bath en-suite apartment in The Oasis and we are really glad we did.  At present there are a few people who have completed in The Oasis, and the resort in general is really busy.  The Oasis is the latest phase on Hacienda Del Alamo and is absolutely stunning.  4 pools, Tennis courts, childrens playgrounds etc.  We have the run of the place at the moment !  The Oasis is quiet compared to other areas but if we feel that if the pools and beautiful gardens were really crowded we would be saying we wish it was a little quieter !

Overall with the options of visiting the Pub 'The Spaniard Inn' and the Golf Club Hacienda Del Alamo is the perfect retreat for some relaxation, sunshine and to meet many new friends as we have done.  La Manga is about 20 mins away just like the sea and beach etc.  When the new airport opens next year at Corvera it is 15mins door to door, or 25mins to Murcia (San Javier) or 60 mins from Alicante.

If you fancy staying at our apartment to try before you buy or need any other adviice please do not hesistate to give me a call. 0793 206 4476.

The HDA website that features The Oasis is www.hdagolf.com

Kindest regards

Garry Riding

Hi, we bought off plan ( having previously been La Manga people) on phase one and have seen various changes over the years, some bad like closing the It bar, some good like the clubhouse,  the Spaniard and the bank taking over the resort from Armilar Procam. The paper value of the properties has dropped dramatically as per most of Spain, but if your not desperate to sell its not such an issue. The main thing is some properties are sellied albeit slowly and the new management do seem to be taking slow but sure steps to take the resort forwards. Also any properties that had construction started have neen finished. They have ( quite sensibly in the current ecomomic climate) not started to build any new properties even though the ifrastucture is in place.

The Hotel is finished an mothballed, Ive been in and it is a truly great looking place- there is even furniture in there all covered in plastic and water in the pools so its a dead cert that it will be opened in the near future, maybe to coincide with the new airport? Also I know for a fact that the second golf course plans exist beacuse I spoke to Dave Thomas ( the designer) son who told me that that had been already paid for the completed work

Rumour still abounds about the proposed Paramount theme park 10 miles away at Alahama ( see simply newtorking . es) and if that comes off I think Hacienda will really take off both in sales and rentals.

In my opinion someone has had a greater insite into the area than the likes of us when they chose the location for Hacienda in the first place, The new Motorway, new airport, high speed raillink from madrid, Paramount studio and Im told a plan for a water park in Fuente if the theme park goes ahead, and Fuente Alamo itself which has changed from a bit of a fleepit to quite a nice town.

In short I think that you can do a lot worse than Hacienda. Its a good location, safe for kids ( ours often take their bikes out and od their own thing) and well maintained.

Hope that helps

Garry and Peedoff

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your comments have given me reassurrance that the resort in not quite the ghost town it was described as. It seems like there is quite a bit going on and The Spaniard Inn seems very much at the centre of the community. I know it is a great location with the new airport opening and Paramount hopefully opening up. I guess what I was more concenred about was if there were lots of half built blocks and nobody living on the site, but you suggest that is not the case. Next step is to visit, in August hopefully. Thank you for the offer to rent your apartment Garry, I may just take you up on it.

all the best

Roy

Hi All,

Have you heard that Cartegena is to become a HOMEPORT for the cruise lines by 2015.

This means that passengers will embark and disembark at Cartegena as they do in Barcelona,Palma, Malaga, and Civitavecchia.

This means that thousands of hotel rooms and villas will be needed as many passengers like to spend a few days pre cruise or post cruise.

They are surely going to have so many visitors from the USA via Corvera airport.

As Hacienda is only a 20 min drive we are in such a good position for everything that is going on.

If I could buy on HDA at todays prices I would not hesitate.
