Hi All

Has anybody made the trip to Gibraltar by car? Our daughter wants to drive there and back over 2 days so we would welcome any advice/tips from anyone who has done it

RAC maps says its 560kms and should take 5 hours 30 minutes with a good run to get from LA to Gibraltir. Thats a good hike to go there and back in two days. They wouldnt have much time to see anything.

We did the journey last year but stopped near malaga for the week and then drove down to Gib for the day I think it would be a long way to go over 2 days as it will take you most of aday driving each way and as the other poster said you would not have much time in Gib.

I think RAC are being very optimistic. Realistically it is 4/5 hours to Granada even though roads are good and quiet, depending on time of year.

We drove down to Portugal last year for a week and had good journey down but shared driving took around 8 hours with stops, stopped in Seville on the return, great stopover.

Another good site for info is www.viamichelin.com for times and petrol costs and possible stops.

we did the trip the opposite way last year.

estepona to roda.

we went the coast rd which took about 5 hrs but there was a section with road works and you do have to go through some towns where going was slow.

its def quicker going the granada way and i would do that if i was going again.

we went down to gibralta from estepona for the day which was an easy 1.5 hrs and well worth it.

if you go there then instead of turning right to drive into gib turn left and park in the undergroud parking opposite the border.

walk through customs and accross the runway and grab a taxi to do the rock tour - its well worth it and it drops you off down in the main st after.
