Wondering if everyone like myself was marched along to a bank when purchasing their properties to open a bank account?

Have you continued to keep them open?

Hi Kay

Yes we were marched to the bank and we do still have a bank account in Spain.  Are we doing the right thing in keeping this open.

Hope you are well.

Kind regards Chrissie1

And they will happily be charging you an annual fee for keeping it open.  Chances are you will owe them some money if you wish to close it.

..............yes, i was aware that there would be bank charges accumulating and phoned them last October to cancel. The operator recommended keeping it open for another year due to the uncertainty of the situation (depending on the outcome of the administration) However, now that i know i will not be needing it- phoned them today to cancel. I thought it may have been long winded and complicated but it was done very quickly! I feel relieved to have got rid of it!!

We still have our bancajc account which we opened when we were conned into buying our property by ambasun, however , there are some advantages in having a spanish account, when we pay for our hire car we always use our bancaja credit card so no exchange rates.   when the exchange rate was high we transfered money, we only buy enough Euros in the uk to cover us for a day or so, then draw money from the bank when we need it.   As for charges, the only charges we have had over the last 4 years has been 12E per year.   This year we have renewed our non residencia at a cost of 18.28E, the police got 13.64E and the Bank took 4.00E, we have a savings account which pays 3% per month, alot better than what you get for a cash isa in the UK, so in the end you have to weigh the pros and the cons.   Oh and something else, Bancaja are also offering to sell you a repo with nothing to pay for 3 years, catch yes you need a deposit.
