I just arrived down in Roda on Wednesday and asked all of these questions. The tennis courts etc will according to my information be opening on July 1st. There are basketball nets and goal nets in place, a five a side pitch, the tennis court and paddel tennis courts and all looking good from where I am on the terrace of the clubhouse. There will of course be a fee payable and it will be paid at the Roda Pro Shop and bookings are also being taken there. I don't know how much but I would imagine that tennis will be something similar to Polaris which is 10 euro for an hour but don't hold me to that.

Great progress since I was last here and there seem to be changing facilities at the courts as well.

To Mike B

Do you not cover Roda Golf costs with 24 weeks rental or does that include mortgage payments?

Please can you tell us

Hi Lappie

I am including all costs which incorporates the mortgage, running costs, community costs and maintainence.  We have again been lucky with rentals and will end up with about 28weeks this year.  We live here in Spain and bought the Roda property just for rental and originally thought that we would be able to charge more rent than is possible at the moment with few facilities

Regards Mike B

Hi All,

Another look at the new sports facilities at Roda. Looking good and they even put in a play area for us to go on while we’re waiting our turn.

Also a video (far too long) of the progress of phase 4.

Is there just 1 'normal' tennis court and 2 Padel tennis courts?

Hi Yvette and Dave,

When I first walked round I did think that there would have been more courts, but unfortunately not, perhaps after these are finished they might add some more!!!!!

Tkae a look at the original plans on the Calidona newsletter - only 1 tennis court I'm afraid but there should be 3 paddle tennis courts.  It seems the 3rd one is a childs small play area.

I CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE RESIDENTS.

I CAN UNDERSTAND HAVING TO BOOK SO YOU CAN RESERVE YOUR COURT. WHY ARE CALADONA CHARGING WE WERE TOLD IT WAS FREE.

AND THE FACT THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING ELSE THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE BY NOW AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE IT SHOULD BE FREE!!

Hi

Can anyone tell me where the 'sports centre' is and what it offers? Do they mean a small fitness centre of some sort and if so what is in it?

Thanks

The Sports Centre is a multi-court facility next to the tennis and paddle courts that can be used for 5 a side football, basketball, netball etc.

hevs

I am not sure anyone expected any sports facility to be offered for free to residents, after all the costs to build these courts is quite high and I have never seen any sports facility offered for free, we do pay for golf after all. In fact the rates quoted actually seem quite reasonable compared to other developments or clubs. The only shame is that there is only 1 tennis court, given the Spanish success and keeness on tennis we may have expected more demand for that particular activity.

I totally agree with Hugh Man as there is nowhere I have ever seen on any holiday resort or any public facility where the sport is actually offered free of charge. A booking system and accountability is essential so that the owners, residents, renters and outsiders respect and value the facility. The costs are very reasonable even in comparison to the local tennis club in Los Alcazares where there are six courts at least available in various surfaces. There is only one tennis court in Mar Menor Resort also so perhaps the demand is not as high as we imagine.

I was always told that the sports facilities would be at a nominal cost and honestly never expected that they would be provided free as there is a considerable capital outlay and running costs to be met with any sports facility.

I saw the finished facilities last night when we arrived and the courts were all busy in spite of the heat with lots of happy youngsters in the play area and adults on all of the courts. It is great to see it all so busy and the clubhouse buzzing.

I never had anything in writting it was only verbal, and I appreciate that it maybe normal to charge for these facilities, but the fact the hotel was suppose to be finnished originally in 2010 and the commercial centre I personally feel they could have offered this free to residence but still have a booking system. Was that really to much to ask for.

The facilities they have built may have cost a little but compared to the cost of what a hotel and commercial centre would have cost them what a few euros on the courts cost.

I love roda but feel people are just blinkered to what has been happening and the way we have been treated by caladona. It is not the dream resort we all bought into.

Hi,

Yes there are floodlights and a coin operated meter to use them, not sure of cost? Looked like tokens were needed.

I think the sports facilities should be free especially when I've been told that Calidona are offering Corvera clients FREE use of our golf course YES FREE UNTIL THEIR COURSE IS FINISHED!  I was told this by a friend who is completing on Corvera.  Thats  what a member of staff told him, I'm happy for him but what have they ever done for us?

Not sure but you may have misinterpreted what your friend said or he/she may have misunderstood.

Corvera owners have received coupons for ONE FREE round of golf for two people at Roda as an apology for the delays at Corvera.

Or maybe this is a NEW initiative?
