Payments

I have just received an information letter  from my original soicitors which amongst other things talks about payment. Despite paying both my instalments on time, they say they have no record of one of instalments, I believe the second one. There has been no mention of lack of payment since the second instalment deadline until now. Just in case it hasn't been stressful enough they now appear to want me to pay the second instalment twice. I was wondering if anyone else has  had a disappearing instalment?

Did you get a bank guarantee for the second payment?

If a guarantee was given that would be proof that the payment was received?

Funnily enough after a 4 month delay the solicitors have  just sent me the guarantees.
