Hi - Can anyone help me with a query I have?  I have just checked my Spanish bank account online and a debit of 122-07 euros has been taken with a description 'Seguros Groupama Seguros y Reaseguros s.'  I have a notion it may be insurance related but I took my policy with Zurich via PW so am not sure why this has been taken.  It just seems as if anyone can dip into your account in Spain.  I am getting fed up with this going on as it has happened before with another debit.

Hi ajw.

I'm afraid I can't help you with 'why' the money was taken out of your account, but I do agree that all of our Spanish bank accounts seem open to this kind of abuse.

We were advised to try to keep the balance in our account at just above the level we expected to have taken out for mortgage payments, etc. That way if anyone tries to take money without notifying us, the bank will need to speak to us before they will let our account go overdrawn. This might seem a bit underhanded, but hey..........most of us are not used to having strangers dipping into our accounts whenever they feel like it.

Arlene, that amount looks like exactly half of our premium to Zurich  (125,000 buildings, 12,000 contents), so I wonder if they are deducting it in 2 halves. Having said that they took the whole lot off us in one go !

Am sure my whole Zurich payment has been taken already.  I have emailed the bank to enquire so will see what they say.  I suspect more people will discover the sme debit from their account in time. I am also still waiting for someone to tell me where the 6000 odd euros went to during the completions process.  Charges etc I am sure but it would be nice to know to whom and for what!!

hi ajw

We took out zurich insurance and the name zurich appears against the withdrawal amount. did you by any chance get caught by the bank for any life insurance?
