Work continues and Parvo strikes
Wednesday, November 26, 2014

24/11

From Tina "We continue work on the land. Here you can see the electricity being installed. Built Into the plans are quarantine areas so problems like Parvo will be much easier to keep under control.

GDS has reached a size now where there is no other option than to build this centre but we still have a long way to go. Are you still excited about it? We are......"

24/11 Prayers for Nube who has come down really sick. GdS took her to the vets who said she has parvo! They rushed her to the big hospital. She has a home waiting & it is devastating that she might lose her chance of a happy forever after.

Nube has been hospitalized. The hospital have said more and more older pups are getting parvo. This is really sad news. Nube was found on the streets a few weeks back so it's unlikely she received any of the vaccines she needed at the time she needed them.

From Tina "An unexpected cost this Monday morning. We know a hospital is more expensive than a clinic but here she will have 24hr care. Parvo is out there in a very aggressive manner at the moment and Nube will have the best chance we can give her. If you can help Nube survive please skip a Starbucks today and Paypal that money to galgosdelsol@hotmail.com

I have no idea what my gut feeling is on this as to whether she will make it or not. What I do know is I have seen puppies suffer terribly with parvo and it's haunting. Nube is in the best place she deserves it. Please help her. Thank you xx"

26/11 Update from Tina: "Little Nube is hanging on in there! Thanks to all those so far for your kind words and donations. This kind of positive support goes a very long way!

Unfortunately, we are also taking Lucas to the 24hr hospital. I guess ..being with his sister Nube.. he's also now been struck with Parvo"

This pregnant Mastin we rescued is apparently not far away from giving birth. To keep her safe we have had to have a huge shuffle around here at GDS. Please please support us and her today and maybe give up one coffee and send it as a donation instead!

Her name is Mumma and she was so grateful to get a good meal. She's had a hard life living in a junk yard but we want to provide a safe and peaceful place for her to give birth! Donations can be sent to galgosdelsol@hotmail.com

 Thank you!

Below: Yesterday (15th) Luna went off to a wonderful new home here in Murcia.

She has a new sister called Honey and her first night went very smoothly!

We are so happy for Luna and her new mum and dad.

Valentino is very sick indeed with leishmania but we would like to save him.

If you want to help us take a look at this mini auction/lucky draw over on GDS GOODIES to help pay for his medication and hospital trips!

Thank you for your support!

Dogs are being added to this adoption folder all the time, Tina says she's got another 20 yet to add.

From Tina "As work continues on the land the overwhelming feelings of anxiety, pride, nerves, excitement all mash up into one!!!!
We are building a centre! Can you believe it????
Water and electricity in. Next we need to raise funds for the kennels".

More news from Galgos del Sol
Sunday, November 9, 2014

The FB banner is updated daily to show the progress. Please make a paypal donation to galgosdelsol@hotmail.com  and leave a CLEAR note for seller as to what you would like your donation to say — dog’s name, family name etc. Thank you. Don't forget your own furbabies also, not just GDS dogs.

This wonderful memorial board will be at the new centre.

Tina is now back from the USA & straight back into work at GdS. There's so much happening there, new Galgos arriving from here & there.

Below: Work continuing fast at the new centre.

Sam has finished her marathon walk for GdS & Ibizan Hound Rescue & she will be back at GdS on Tuesday 11th.

Fina ate her coat that was put on her to keep her cosy now the temperatures are lower!! She had to be taken to hospital (where she'll stay till tomorrow, Monday).

Whilst on route to hospital with Fina, GdS get a call about Scout, a starving galga puppy. It never stops!

Below: Jodie is a very shy girl and arrived to GDS with an open fracture. Her leg is fixed now and although she is still very shy it would be great if she could find an experienced home. Jodie trembles when she meets a new man but we are working on that. We think once she is in a forever home she will learn to trust those she lives with and will come along much faster. She's a weeny girl approx 3yrs old.

Jodie is just one dog needing a loving home.

Extra busy time for Galgos del Sol
Saturday, November 1, 2014

It's a busy time ......what's new ..... for Galgos del Sol.

31/10
Tina said "We have unbelievable news!!!!!

Not only are we GDS Spain and USA but we have now been accepted as a legal charity in the United Kingdom! What will this mean? We will be eligible for gift aid! More details soon! Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!

We also say goodbye to Camel and Callie who are off to Greyhounds Rescue Belgium v.z.w. Thanks Mandy for taking them to the transport. Another two re-homed!!!!"

At the same time Tina is off to Madrid for an overnight stop before she takes three dogs from Madrid airport to the USA where they have new homes waiting them. They're flying to New York. Four other dogs are also travelling on the same flight.

Below: Monica made coats for the three puppies who are going to the USA today, 1st November.

31/10 Brian of Ibizan Hound Rescue drove Tina & the puppies from GdS plus one from Ibizan Hound Rescue to Madrid ready for the pups lunchtime flight to New York today, 1/11,

Tina had these two pups to look after in her hotel room, they were so excited!
Chaos in the hotel room!

There was a panic at the airport! The airline had only booked one crate for seven dogs! Thankfully it was sorted, worrying time!

Thank you to Brian from Ibizan Hound Rescue
Galgo Podenco Support, Grateful Greyhounds, Sam and the GDS team back home! Lucky pups from Argos and Galgos en Familia also going!

Below: Meanwhile back at the land work continues.....

From Tina "As work continues on the land we get feedback from the engineers that the local council are very excited about this project! With licenses and paperwork being put in place it means we will now be open to inspection by Seprona and other authorities as a fully legal LAND licensed charity!

We've always been a registered charity as you know but to hold large numbers of animals in one place can be more complicated. Licenses need to be obtained hence why the center is so badly needed!

I'm SO excited about this and for those that think this trip to New York is all fun I'm afraid not.... It's work, work, work and I wouldn't have it any other way right now! The electricity and water is under way and next .....the phase one of the kennels!"
