POLL:Do you think Spain's newly published Face Mask Law should be adopted across Europe?
Wednesday, March 31, 2021 @ 9:09 AM

It does not matter if you are in a park, on a beach, in a swimming pool or on a boat. Masks are now officially compulsory everywhere. It is officially law.

Take note, as this is important: the rule that regulates the use of masks in Spain has now changed officially and now it will be mandatory to put them on in any public space, no matter how far you are from other people. It is also specified that they must be worn correctly. Until now, on the street or in outdoor spaces, it was mandatory to wear a mask but only when there was a distance of less than one and a half meters.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published yesterday the new law, a measure that seeks to further curb the coronavirus. Law 2/2021 March 29 is a compendium of de-escalation measures that were already agreed on in June 2020, once the first state of emergency had expired.

The norm was originally approved as a decree-law - which raised a lot of controversy - and began to be applied, but then it was processed as law and now has come into force. The autonomous communities have been applying it more or less harshly, according to the number of cases of contagion.
It now states that "People six years of age and older are obliged to use masks (...) on public roads, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public,". That implies parks, beaches or swimming pools. It also states "all means of air, maritime, bus, or rail transport", as well as in "complementary public and private transport of passengers in vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, if the occupants of the tourism vehicles do not live at the same address”. In the case of passengers on ships and boats, it will not be necessary to use masks when they are inside their private cabin.

This new law is valid indefinitely because it will last until the health crisis is over. It states "Until the Government declares in a motivated manner and in accordance with scientific evidence the end of the health crisis situation caused by covid-19...".

Since last summer, when the state of alarm that had begun in March subsided, the autonomous communities adopted the use of masks based on the royal decree-law. The vast majority did it quickly but were able to adapt it depending on each communities unique situation thus considering some exceptions of different types, such as sunbathing on beaches or swimming pools.

Now, with the new law, the requirement to use a mask in outdoor spaces is applicable to all communities, which can no longer regulate their exceptions or adjust their application. There are now no exceptions anywhere, it is national law.

What is your opinion? Do you think the measure should be adopted across Europe by everyone?

No, that is considered individual sport/swimming...but you must put it back on as soon as you leave the water.

But it does mean that you have to wear a mask even if you go for a walk in the countryside and there is no one in sight...you can be fined now.

Damned stupid idea especially on the beach or countryside.

The people in power have gone power mad. When healthy people are treated in this way, we are heading towards communism. How much confidence in their vaccines must they have if this is the way we are being treated?

I consider that England in particular are distinctly on the way towards fascism rather than communism.

There are some rather way out comments on here today.
So the swimmer needs to take a mask in a plastic bag tucked into his/her cossy and take it out as soon as he/she leaves the water or have someone waiting on the waters edge with a mask. Yes, it all sounds ridiculous but I can't blame Spain for doing this.
The real reason for all this is that the commisioners have lost control of the whole situation and Spain has said we must stop the spead because we can't rely on our vaccine supplies, hence the unambiguous blanket ruling.
As far as communism or fascism goes the commissioners are a prime example of these two doctorings.
They have all failed in a previous life and are un-elected, look no further than the Kinnocks for an example.
Now van de lieing is throwing a hissy fit because the private drug companies are forfilling their contracts with other governments and the EU one negociated by the commissionersis is so full of holes and ambiguities the supplies to Europe are insufficient and the commisioners don't have the balls to admit their blunder.
Now they are throwing their un-elected weight around, hell mind them.
So Spain has said, presumably, that because we can't get everyone vaccinated in good time we need to step up on protection. Hence the unambiguous wearing of masks at all times in all situations.

Following on from my previous comments, it would seem that there are hundreds of thousands of AstraZenica doses laying in store because some idiot has said that they could cause blood clots without taking any notice of the medical and WHO advice.
Got to keep the plebs controlled somehow!!

I voted yes but it is with a BUT surely not on the beach providing you can social distance. Also when eating it is ridiculous to keep putting the mask up and down with each bite or sip of a drink!
I really wish the UK would bring this in too.

When a rule comes out as stupid as this, the authorities have lost the argument and lost the people. And probably worse lost the holiday makers bookings for now and the future.

So how do you sit at a bar and drink a beer ?

In theory you are supposed to lower the mask only to drink and then put it back in place while swallowing and between sips.

My daughter was going to go on holiday to Spain in the summer or whenever feasible, but she said there is no way she is going to a hot country where a mask is mandatory everywhere. Millions of others will take the same view and go elsewhere or nowhere.
