POLL: Would you feel comfortable travelling to Spain this Summer?

As air travel to and from the U.K. takes off, but threats of quarantine and travel bans lurk, summer trips abroad for British travellers are on hold, not over, though.

Even with the much-feared U.K. quarantine coming into effect June 8, summer holiday hopes are within view. There is still a possibility of future exemptions to the quarantine, the British government said in a statement on Friday. It will continue to look at the option of “air bridges”– similar to travel bubbles–between countries with low transmission rates. Together with bolstered screening measures, this would “remove the need for quarantine measures for incoming passengers.”

This could dramatically change holiday outlooks for Brits. For now, the quarantine will apply to all travellers, (bar the Irish). That includes returning British holidaymakers.

Supposing "air-bridges" are agreed between certain areas of Spain and the UK, how would you feel about visiting Spain this summer or in the coming months?

And if you are living in another country, Germany, France, Holland etc. Would you consider visiting Spain this summer?

I am living in Spain and I feel the question could be structured differently in order to include those that might wish to travel back to the mother country.
Perhaps then you would have a more accurate vote result

I structured the question in order to see if there was an interest in holidaying in Spain this summer as the hospitality industry is taking a very big blow at the moment, not just in Spain, of course. So the result wouldn't be accurate if I included those wanting to travel back to the UK.

But I have taken your point on board and I have added a complimentary poll to address those who wish to return to the UK this summer.

I have no difficulty with virus risk per se. I do have issues with how the Spanish Govt would react to a second wave and enforcing another lock-down.

Seeing the army deploy two armoured vehicles in the main square of my small town was too ridiculous for words. Then there’s the Civil Guard and the Police...

I would say that Spain (Murcia region of which I would travel to) is a lot safer in general than uk, it has better lock down rules and has been better policed
Uk is more interested in getting Country back up and running ASAP.
I can’t have my haircut on a one to one basis but it’s ok to cram people on the London Underground to go to work.
I think the biggest fear would be travelling on Aircraft and at the Airports would be biggest risk.

I feel far safer here in Spain than UK. At least our Government has some control over it whereas Johnson and his inept colleagues dont have a clue.

I've cancelled our July holiday in Spain with great reluctance. Here in the UK we cannot yet mix freely with our families, we can't have a beer in the pub or dinner in a restaurant, we can't have a haircut and we can't go into most of our shops. The thought of getting into an aircraft with more than 200 strangers wearing masks doesn't sit well.
We love Spain. Our summer holiday in Andalucia is the main one for us, so it's extremely disappointing that we won't see it this summer. We will, however, look forward to that day in the future when we can once again enjoy everything that we love over there. Viva españa.

We would happily travel to our holiday home in the Malaga province once the quarantine in the U.K. is lifted, my concern is how will the locals in our smallish inland village feel about us rockin up? Apparently there’s no animosity, the Chinese shop has re-opened etc but the I’d hate to make people uncomfortable or face any hostility.

I am currently in isolation in the UK being high risk. I am supposed not to leave my house. I normally travel to Spain 4 or 5 times a year. I cannot see any way I can get to Spain this Summer, the main issue being flying as I cannot see any way aircraft travel can be made safe. I do have a flight booked for October and hope things would have got a lot better by then. Mind you with the idiocy of Boris Johnson and his band of supporting puppets running the UK I have no idea where we are all going. Protecting life and the NHS seems to be a joke with the actions they keep taking. They seem to be protecting themselves and playing a game of chess without knowing or understanding what moves to make!

I think an interesting poll would be to ask residents here in Spain how they feel about the return of mass tourism. I think there’s many here, after a long Lockdown, who are worried about folks coming along with the virus and breaking the social distancing rules that limited the virus Infection rate in many areas. Maybe a poll that includes a question about if mass tourism will lead to a Second Wave. Another question might be about the many tourist areas that mostly escaped the intensive spread, and if mass tourism will change that.

If you have been tested for Covid-19 and it was negative, and the scientific evidence is that you can't contract it or carry it, then go on your holiday to Spain. Otherwise what's so very wrong with staying home and keeping yourself, fellow travellers and Spaniards safe?
I love Spain and go there regularly, but it's not absolutely essential for my health and wellbeing.

Will be there just as soon as the uk quarantine is lifted. Currrently booked to fly to Malaga 3rd July. I thinks it’s probably safer in Southern Spain than the UK SE where I live when not in Spain. My biggest concern is the flight itself.

The replies to this will be heavily influenced by age
Over 90% of the deaths in England are aged over 60 so the risk assessment is vastly different to a Young family unit going to a holiday home and a retired couple in their 70s staying a couple of months

From the UK.
Facts not fear (or bravado) should dictate if you travel.
I am surprised there is not more information targeted at high risk groups, from the authorities.
If you are fit and healthy and particularly under 50, travel will be no problem for most.
But if you are over 50, fat (not just obese), diabetic, have high blood pressure, any immune disease, COPD, (and a few others that don't come to mind) you would be advised Not to travel.
Additionally if you are from the BAME community or you just never go in the sun you should check out 'Vitamin D deficiency'
This disease targets the sick and the weak, and not all who are in that category realise it.

I'm building a house in Spain and I think we're asking for the habitation certificate in just over a weeks time. I just cannot WAIT to get over there as soon as we are allowed.

If it were up to me, I'd move over in a heartbeat.

I'd happily travel to Spain and live there. I would not bother going back to the UK ever after the Brexit vote and the UK government's attitude to Europe. It's probably friendlier to stay outside the UK, anywhere. The UK has had it as far as I'm concerned, I'd only return to see the family, weddings or funerals.

having used britanny ferries for many years to my home in spain i am worried that their new fees and unnecesary options for making a booking are merely a feature of the monopoly they hold. please
could an alternative service be found, many travellers would be

Hi guys I love Spain We spend several Months there every Year but this Year it's no no for us, the problem if Spain got a spike while we were over we could not return to Ireland. I breaks our heart not to go but play it safe .......fed up

We're hoping not to have to forego the return flights that we have booked for late July. We're anticipating that the airline will help us to make the decision; waiting to see if the flight remains. Whilst the airline itself may be motivated commercially, the authorities will require controls eg. infra-red temperature sensors. A greater risk is the other passengers! Will those that know they're unwell hold themselves back and not travel? Will those that have a persistent cough recognize that there may be a reason or will they consider that their right to do whatever they want to do outweighs the health of others?

We have lived along the playa from Estepona for 10 years, and a better place to spend a lockdown would be hard to find. To visit my daughter in Torquay via Exeter Airport 2.5 hrs on a plane from Malaga is hugely less risky than a ferry crossing of 20 hrs plus the hazards of driving Santander to Estepona. I also feel that the airlines have gotten such a shock over CV-19 they will likely be more hygienic than a Harley Street surgery.

We have family in Calpe since 2002 & have been visiting every year since 2007, twice a year (spring & autumn) since 2011 for 2 months at a time but we don’t own just rent. Sadly we had to cancel our scheduled April/June trip & we are now hoping to go ahead with our September/November visit but I fear it’s too early to call at the moment as it will depend on many things. We are both now over 70, the UK FCO needs to lift the ban on non essential travel but, essentially, how we will get insurance cover which, for obvious reasons, no UK insurance company is offering this at the moment.

Given the UK’s governments seemingly poor management of the crisis with lack of testing & PPE, our huge infection rate &, sadly, the number that have succumbed to the virus. I agree with many of the comments that we will probably be safer in Calpe than here in the UK; personally I can’t wait to get back to Spain, if they will have us!
