Payment of la renta tax

I have just received my first IBI bill for 2009. I purchased my property on 24th April 2008. Now that I have my IBI bill I have all the info required to work out my la renta for 2008. Do I only have to pay a percentage of the la renta since I only had my property from April 2008

Saves us loads now the Wealth Tax has gone though, my bill went down by about 100 Euros this year!

If I took out Spanish residency would I still have to pay this tax ?

If it was that easy, every Non Resident would get a Recidencia.

I don't think you can do this, but nice thought!

Hi - I though that anyone with Spanish residency is exempt from the Renta tax.

I have been self employed and have been paying normal income taxes, social security etc, and have Spanish residencia.  Our house is our only home.

Do I still have to pay the Renta tax?

 La Renta Tax is only payable by NON RESIDENTS

This tax is paid on the assumption that you could rent out your property when you are not there, even if you don't rent it out,

So permanent residents of Spain are not liable for this tax.

You kindly replied to me months ago on another thread about renta tax, I've searched for it without success.

We completed on the 10th Feb 2009, I think(hope) that you said we don't have to pay this tax till October 2010,

Is this correct

Does anybody know when we might get our IBI bill (Mijas)

Yes, you will have to pay your La Renta tax in the year 2010 (before 24th Dec))

Tax is paid in arrears and you will only pay the proportion of 2008 from the date of signing your Escritura.

Your 1st IBI bill can take anything up to 18 months to arrive, but you can use 50% of your Escritura price as a rough guide, to pay our La Renta
