We have just taken over our new apartment on the Island. We are new to this and need suggestions as to what next.

Questions:

1. Furnishings?

2. Electricity and Water?

3. Services?

Any suggestions on these and other things we need to consider initially would be much appreciated.

I'd suggest getting a keyholder too, so you can have things delivered & fitted without having to be there. Also so when you do come over, your apartment is lovely and clean & you are not faced with a load of laundry and housework when you leave.

Laurel

For furnishings try Matt and Nicky at SFS in Pilar De La Horada.

They are fantastic. Can kit out your apartment in every detail and even do a clean of your apartment as well.

This takes all the hassle out of furniture buying process etc

You just walk into your apartment and everything is done for you

Recommendations from me:

DFS in San Javier (english run, good friendly service, no pressure, reliable, decent prices)

IKEA in Murcia if you want to do it yourself. Recommend you check it out in the UK first because trying to negotiate the Spanish version is a bit tricky.

Electro Regalis in Roldan for electrical goods - spanish run and friendly, and v helpful. We've have white goods delivered the same day.

Dos Mares shopping centre in San Javier which has Eroski (like Tesco) and Woken (a big electrical superstore)

Electricity & Water - during signing we signed a form which gave Polaris authority to set up the electric and water accounts. You can then arange to get your electric bill online ( https://www.iberdrola.es/webibd/corporativa/iberdrola?IDPAG=ENWEBCLIHOGAR ). Unfortunately the water people don't have an online facility ( http://www.aquagest-regiondemurcia.es/index.php/aquagest/quienessomos )

Not sure what you meant by services?

If I can be of any further help, just ask. We bought on phase 2 last year and have been out 4 times and love it.

Dave & Pam (Block 285)

Hi, welcome. Ikea in Murcia is good as is DFS in San Javier. Polaris do have some ex Showhome bits and the money get donated to their charity. We bought most of our furniture this way. Electrical items are best to get from the big superstores like the tv. White goods are best from the electrical store 'Tien 21' in Roldan and air con. I suggest a timer to plug into the water heater as you do not need it on all time. A hose is very useful on the terrace. Ikea best for plates glasses etc. Also does nice bathroom storage. Enjoy!

Hi Welcome and hope you have fun decorating and purchasing for your apartment.  We just completed first week in September and spent a week there buying and buying.

Definately Electro Regalos in Roldan for white goods they are well priced and you can get other bits and bobs there too.  The chinese bazars that you find everywhere there are a few in San Javier, you can get all your cleaning bits in there such as brushes, mops, hose etc for your terrace etc.  Some people recommended Carrefour but it was quite expensive compared to other places.

We got a lot of our furniture from Almoradi.  Its a bit out of the way although easy to find just off the AP7 through 2 tolls from San Javier.  Some lovely shops along a long strip although I suppose it just depends what you want.  Got our lighting in a shop in San Javier in middle of town.

We enjoyed our experience and found the shops very helpful, prompt with the delivery times and installed everything taking all the packaging with them.

Heading back on Saturday now and looking forward to enjoying our apartment this time without having to do to much shopping.

Good luck

Jenna
