Broadband

 Hi,

Does anyone have broadband in Corvera currently? What are the speeds like? Is Telefonica the only option.

 Telefonica are offering unlimited braodband and phone line rental for €40.20 for the first 6 months and €48.30 there after. 10Mb is the maximum achievable in Corvera although actual throughput is unknown. Can anyone shed any light on this?

More details can be found here by googling "telefonica english" but it seems a little out of date. I didn't like to put bank details etc into this site as I am not sure it is an official telifonica site. It may very well be. This can all be arranged over the phone but you do need a Spanish mobile number, your Spanish bank account details and your Passport number. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know of any better deals / faster speeds etc? This is quite expensive.

We had it installed in April and have had no problems, fast and secure wireless signal can be picked up on our I-phones at the pool (Mentas) prices start at 29.99/month with various packages available offering free installation etc. Works on microwave technology with a small square dish mounted on your property that picks up the singal from the large mast on the mountain which is in turn connected to a fibre optic cable network.

A telephone service is also available through the internet connection VoIP you pay a one off fee for the box that connects to the router and therafter only call charges, no monthy charges with the option of a Spanish tel No or low cost UK Number ( 0845 No)

Speeds start at 1 meg, synchronous (1 meg upload and 1 meg download).

Do you know what bandwidth you are currently getting? Can you stream video etc. without delay? Have you tried http://www.speedtest.net/ to test your connection speeds.

They are quoting the options below. Seems a bit strange to ask for 18 months up front. If the connection speeds are not good enough it is a relatively big outlay with no comeback.

A.  FREE    18 month contract, 18 months advanced payment

B.  99 €       18 month contract, no suspension possibility

C.  199 €     6 months contract with suspension possibility

Are there download limits?
