Is there anybody there, one knock for yes etc. .............

It is very quiet on this message board, is that because you,ve all been in Spain over the Christmas break. Unfortunately we haven,t but will be coming over at the end of January. So what is it like in Almoradi at this time of year , did anybody see the processions of the Kings ? was there much going on in the bars, restaurants,  cafes?

And has anybody heard any news about THE MEETING.  Did anybody pop in to see Ron , How is he? Looking forward to loads of replies.

                                   Best Wishes   Gill & Neil.

hi gill

happy new year we was over in almoadi for new year, we had a nice time , the weather was nice in the day  but it did go cold at night and the apartment was cold we have bought a heater for the second bedroom new years day there was nothing open in almoradi even the pubs was shut so we  stayed in on the night " we have got to get sky"

They are building lots of apartments round by us, i think they need some more pubs and more things for children  to do there

next time we are over will be in march so if you are over come and say hi we are in 112

Hi everyone,

Have just checked Atlas customer website and they have posted a picture that the ground has now been cleared across the road from your apartments for the building of Luz phase 3 .

If anyone is out at all next month could they please post here if any actual building work is going on or if any machinery has arrived?

That would be great, thanks.

Sharon

Hi Chris and Dave, surprized to hear that it was so quiet, I expected the square to be buzzing on New Years Eve! I think a lot more cafes ,bars etc. will spring up down "our" end of the town as the building is completed. I will be over at the end of March with a couple of friends so hope to see you then.

Sharon, I will have a nosey around when I go out end of January and see what is happening.

                         Best Wishes   Gill.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the info and thanks to everyone who's going to have a nosey about for me when they're next out!!!

I've just had a couple of private e-mails from  Eye on Spain member 'Dyfan' who has bought in your phase and loves it, she's told me that work has started,  the slab was almost finished (I'm assuming that's the foundation????) and the machine that pumps the concrete has been going from about 5 in the morning!!!!!

I'm so excited now qnd can't wait for it to be finished!!

Hi everybody

I was there over Christmas and New Year. It is traditionally a quiet time in Spain. They go to church instead of going out, but there are lots of parties in homes if you get to know the locals. I think another year we can organise our own.

The 3 Kings fiesta was excellent but smaller than the summer fiestas because it was a children's fiesta. There was a procession - early for Spain - at about 6.30 led by Djins (genies or spirits), dancing girls, warriors fighting with real swords and lots of Disney characters. The finale was the 3 kings in procession on floats with their courts and helpers. Lots of presents were thrown into the crowd and the children scrambled for them.

After a brief church service, They went on to a stage which was stacked with presents (previously delivered to the Town Hall by parents and guarded by the police) Each child was called on to the stage and given his or her presents by one of the kings. Apparently they don't get presents on Christmas eve.It was great to see, but there was not a lot for the English.

You will find that on Public holidays, most places are closed. Shops and bars do not open on Sundays, except on rare occasions.

Looking forward to seeing some of you either at Easter or summer.

Valstanne

Hi all,

Went to the bar Elite New Years Eve, which had a good atmosphere and free food laid on. There were a lot of the Luz residents there and had the chance to meet new friends (didn't leave till late. Got in about 4.45am)

There were families in the streets lighting barbecues earlier in the evening and i heard that at midnight there was an open air party at the soccer ground at the bottom of town.

I'm glad my flight was cancelled and I was able to see the parade on the 5th January. It makes a change to see families of all ages out enjoying themselves and exchanging gifts. Back home there's usually drunkeness and fighting in the town centres.

Can't wait till next year

Hi Chris & Dave,  I have seen the other forum that you mentioned. Almoradi is much bigger than it first appears and I  know that there are lots of restaurants, shops etc. that I haven,t seen yet.  I am sure that your Mum & Dad will love it, especially if you take them up to the square in the evening.  There is such a lovely atmosphere up there, and the weather should be picking up by then.

Is anybody going out for the Fiesta in July? I am taking two of my Grandaughters and they are really looking forward to it. People that saw it last year have said that it was fantastic..

                                Best Wishes Gill.

Hi,  Thanks for the reply , it,s nice to know that there is somebody out there! Leeabby used to write regularly but I haven,t seen anything from her for weeks, either on this forum or the general one.

Going back to the Fiesta, is it spread out over 3-4 days? And what goes on?  Do the children get dressed up - if they do mine will want to join in and I,d like to be prepared.

                                   Best Wishes Gill.

the was things going on in the square and they had a fair which was up the side streets by the square so your granddaughters will like that  and on friday night they had a procession and the costumes was out of this world they walk  from one end of almoradi to the other end and then back again on the saturday night  in the parade you see dancing ,bands playing ,and loads more  and on the last night they have street partys which we missed cause of coming home you will love it

on the other forum go to photos and see the costumes  how they didnt pass out with the heat and wereing them costumes cause it was so hot  your granddaughter dont have to dress up it was just the locals in the parade

Hello everybody

The fiesta in the last 2 weeks of July is fantastic! It celebrates the battles between the Moors and the Christians which finished with the Moors being evicted from Spain. It actually lasts 2 weeks with something on in the square every night. The big nights are the last Friday and Saturday with the parades and parties.

In the summer there is also open air cinema in the square which is free - about 9 pm I think, all in Spanish of course but on a big screen. There are other things happening in the square and lots of little street parties everywhere because it is too hot to stay indoors.
