Thanks (again!) to Arne for keeping us informed about these important issues - those of us not living in Spain really do like to hear what's going on there.

It seems to me from the minutes that there are 2 issues affecting La Canada - the roundabout and the unlit street lights on the approach road to La Canada. The town hall seem to be saying that if we want them, then we (the residents) should pay for them.

The roundabout issue is a bad joke - why start it if they didn't have the necessary permissions? And it is totally unrealistic to ask residents to fund it  - so I think that it's now a 'dead duck' and we should all forget about it because it will never be finished - perhaps we should instead be campaigning for landscaping of the site, or maybe a children's play area or a tennis court cum football area etc, - something beautiful or fun (preferably both!).

As for the street lighting - surely this is a safety/security issue, and as such, surely the council should pay for it? It is not only the La Canada residents that will be using the road - in the future the Bobele residents will need the road as well, and if we are to get our commercial area, we might get visitors from other places coming up the hill - especially if we are lucky enough to have a restaurant business set up there. But what businesses are going to want to set up there if they know that there is no lighting on the street leading to them? I think efforts should be made to find out whether the council pays for the street lighting in other similar urbanisations - if they do, then there should be no reason why they shouldn't pay for ours. In all my opinion is that we should not pay to bail out councils or builders it just is not righ and maybe a legal slant on this should be sort.

What do others think on this? Do our committee members (Phase 1 and 2) have any views they would share with us? Many of us are not living in Spain (unfortunately) and don't get the chance to communicate with each other on these kinds of issues other than on this forum, so I think many of us would appreciate a friendly and constructive discussion on this and any other issues that might arise in the future- no sarcastic or abrupt messages please as these are opinions and discussion points only.

So disappointing to read this about the roundabout and the street lighting!  I do not think we should give up on the roundabout - yet!  We did speak to our solicitor about this when in Spain in October and she was going to look into it for us.  Needless to say, we havent heard anything so this thread has just prompted me to email her about both the roundabout and the lighting.  Obviously I will post anything useful I get from her.

Perhaps if more of us asked our solicitors to get onto these matters it might help.   Jean might know more or be able to find out more when she returns from her holiday.

Regards

Yvonne

Sorry I forgot to tell that the minutes are from a meeting with Mayor Ángel Sáez Huertas by Terry Watson and Mike Newland (Chairman and secretary of Presidents Liaison Group, PLG, ) on 30th October.

It was published in SMdS Radio /Community News.
The roundabout matter is also discussed in SMdS Radio /The NEW Forum:
