Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond to my post.  I have contacted the company who sold the house and who got my partner to sign the forms for claiming back the tax, they have now replied and said that they will actually contact a gestor to chase up what is happening, that was over a week ago, so watch this space. I will let you all know when, or if the refund is ever received.

Hi everyone who has responded to my post!

It has now been almost 16 months since my partner sold the property in Spain.  The estate agent who handled the sale was also claiming (allegedly) back the tax charged at the point of sale. There has still been no sign of any refund.  I have contacted the agent several times to ask about the progress, the last time she answered me she told us that we had to be patient - that was 4 months ago.  Since then, any communication we make with her is just completely ignored.

Anybody any advice where we go from here please?  It's very frustrating as they told my partner that he had to keep the Spanish bank account open for the refund to be paid into - meanwhile this racks up charges upon charges for so say account maintenance.

Hi all,

Just wondered if anybody reading this can help me?  My partner sold a property in Spain last October and at the time paid a tax to the local notary and was told this can be claimed back. Can anybody tell me how long it is between selling the property and being able to claim a refund of the tax paid? Thanks

Hi to anyone out there?!

What has happened to car hire in Spain? I remember the days when it was a simple and inexpensive thing to do! The staff were always courteous and polite....and it wasn't their sole aim to wring out every last euro from you!

My question is can anybody recommend a car hire firm who might fit any of the above criteria? We always used to use Record and they were always excellent, unfortunately the last two times we have used them they have disappointed us badly.  The last time they charged us for a full tank of fuel and this was supposed to be re-imbursed upon return of the vehicle, but instead of refunding it, they charged the same amount again, this took me 4/6 weeks to sort out and more than £10 stirling in phone calls, and no apology or anything in the bargain!

Would appreciate your thoughts/recommendations, many thanks.

Hi

Can anyone out there recommend a decent bank in Spain that doesn't legally rob you a minimum four times per year?  At least that's how it feels!  

Many moons ago we were spoilt when we held a Halifax bank account in Spain, with no charges whatsoever because we banked with them in the UK. But as per usual all good things come to an end and when it did we were transferred to Sabadell.  They are currently charging us approximately 260+ euros per year!  We don't live there and so only use our debit card to pay Spanish bills online and we use it when we visit once, maybe twice per year.

We used to have a debit card each, but when we realised we were being charged 'maintenance charges' every year per card, we cancelled one and we are currently charged 30 euros for the one card 'maintenance.'  I'm still to be advised of what the actual card 'maintenance' consists of!

Are there any banks in Spain that are a little less greedy, or are we, as long as we hold a bank account there, to be constantly held to ransom? ( Dick Turpin constantly flashes through my mind!!)

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated!
