Hi Everyone

Hope all are well

I am in the process of moving to CDA on a rental basis for at least 6 months, I have lived all over the world and Spain is one of a very few places I have not had the pleasure to enjoy. I have a few questions that some of you out there maybe able to help me with.

1. As I use the internet a lot, could you please let me know what the service is like, is the service fast and i hope i will not be waiting endless time for websites to upload ?

2. As I believe i am renting directly from the owner, do I need to supply the owner my Spanish bank account details so that the utilities can be paid from direct debit ? or do i need to organise all this myself ?

3. I love my football, do any of the bars show live premiership football ?

These are the most important for me right now, so i hope someone out there can help with answering the above.

Thanks in advance

Nik

Hi Hammers and welcome to CDA, some quick answers.
The Internet is fine for general web work and surfing, I can access my work systems back in the UK without any problem. If you want to stream HD television like SKY SPorts then thats a no go, not fast enough for that.

Utility bills, no idea really as I don't rent out but I would have thought the owner would want you to set that up direct with the utility companies just in case you don't pay.

Most of the bars on site show Sky Sports plus Spanish so you can get all the big games. You'll love it. Jon Faulkner

Hi John

Thanks for the info, is it possible to upgrade the internet package that is presently supplied to CDA by A2Z ?

As I will be working from home, I dont want to arrive get settled in and then find that the internet service is not going to be sufficient, the landlord did tell me that the service is good and reliable. As lond as the pages come up quickly and I dont have to wait an eternity for the pages to load, not worried about streaming tv or anything like that.

Thanks again

Nik

Not sure about upgrades although something tells me you can. Probably worth contacting A2Z direct on a that one or somebody else on here might advise. However, for general Internet usage the speed is fine and the only time I notice any difference from my BT Infinity at home which is super fast is when I might download music from ITunes.

Hi Nik, if you need the internet for work A2Z is not reliable.  I believe it's not them but the system Polaris installed.  We are seriously considering switching to Tele Alhama as the only reliable option BUT they need to put dish up....we are hoping it can go on front of ground floor.  Our back backs onto road in so not allowed there....not even sure if allowed on front...but sure someone will advise very very soon!"!

Risky with a satellite dish as they are not allowed and those that have breached the rules probably will have to move them soon. If you have access to a roof top, say in the penthouses, that would be OK if the dish is out of sight of the public areas. ( I have seen some that are quite ridiculous ). They need to face south in all cases.

Got to say since they fiddled with the system in the summer mine has been great in block 11 penthouse. Also have the A2Z wireless router and regularly use 2 or 3 devices simultaneously and the speed is fine. Prior to the summer, it wasn't good and did crash often. Perhaps when the resort is busy the system can't cope with demand.

Maybe you could consider a portable satellite dish and erect in it in your yard area. I have one in the UK and they work fine. Can't breach community rules then as it is not fixed.

I have just seen that you can upgrade the internet service to 8Mb/s for 38 Euros a month through the community charge, might  be the way to go.

Has anyone had expreience of this service ???

Currently, you get 2MB speed for about 6Euro a month. So the extra 6MB is expensive and not that much quicker. I don't think most people will complain about the speed, it is the reliability of the connection. Mine is good. The contract is up for renewal in December and the monthly charge will almost certainly increase, but not by a lot.

unless. You are on a top floor you cannot put up dishes, number of Spanish are putting up dishes, and I,myself sure they will have to take them down, during the summer and last month the Internet was fine, no service problems
