Can anyone suggest , preferably a UK company that offers decent insurance packages for Spanish properties, we had to go with the bank as a term of the mortgage but I suspect we pay over the top and are looking to change for next year.

Also Stella & I are going over on Tuesday (17th, May) for a week so give us a shout if you see us around, also we have arranged to meet Shaun and Margot at Pepas on Monday 23rd if anyone fancies a few beers.

Cheers,

Roger

Give Shelly at Knight Insurance a call, they use Liberty seguros who are a massive company.
Weve used them for a few years now (car ins. too) as the bank was a rip off.

Tell them Golfsanjuan recommended you.

We have used for the last 2 years Intasure Insurance, Croydon 012082746777 who are based in the UK they are very helful and came out less than half the cost of the Insurance company in Spain.

i have also used intasure for the last 2 years for my house on CDP, and found them very competitive and they even let me pay by monthly direct debit and dont charge me any more for that either, and yes the policy came in english and spanish and you have an english phone number if you need to talk to anyone. one tip i would give anyone is, no matter what you buy and put in the house keep the receipt and take a photo of it, then youve allways got proof of your belongings in your holiday home.

Whilst appreciating not all will have mortgages on Calas and that all banks may have different policy we have been tied to Banco Hispania (now Lloyds) for 2 years on insurance - we tried to switch last year to be advised 2 months notice was required, alongside evidence of a policy which shows Lloyds as primary benefactor in the event of a building claim.

We were determined not to be caught out this year and 10 weeks prior to renewal with Zurich we commenced dialogue to switch - this has been very painful to say the least but we finally achieved and now have the policy with Intasure.

Our primary concern was in the event of a claim arising it would be difficult to have a claim effeciently and effectively concluded and whilst Intasure are not signficantly cheaper they seem on top of things.

Just thought it was worth a note on the forum in the event of others not attempting to switch and holding a mortgage and being caught out like we were last year.

Hope useful to fellow owners.

Regards

Yes, our renewal is November so we'll be looking ten weeks before.  Ours was through the bank initially then last year we didn't know about the 2 months' notice but we won't get caught out this time

So if somebody would like to remind me because I'll probably forget.

Thanks for the info folks, we went over in May and as others have indicated the bank said we must stop with them, I must check out for how long, it is expensive but I get the impression it is a good policy....the manager said they were paying out a lot of claims due to the events in Lorca....which is encouraging so I may just stick with them for the time being.

If you can get away from your bank insurance, try a company we went with called Jennifer Cunningham. (Google them) English agents, very good & competative.

Saludos.
