If anybody wants to use a gym when in DV I can recommend the gym at Casares Golf. It is brand new, all the exercise machines you could wish for plus a sauna and steam room. Unlike the gym at Duquesa Hotel it opens early , 8am, and closes late at night , 9pm. The cost for a day pass is €6 and the bar is open at 9 am for breakfast with stunning views from the balcony and it also has free WiFi.

It is situated about 1km up the Casares road from the roundabout.

Thanks John.  Ideal for those wet winter days.

6Euro  seems good value.   It might get my other half to up her enthusiam to go this winter.

All the missing man hole covers, broken pavements, dog dirt,  holes in the road and crazy driving have put her off somewhat.

One winter January when  it rained all day for three days in a row so we decided off the the Duquesa Golf Hotle Gym for half a day.

It was closed due to the heavy rain !! The roof was leaking badly somewhere. So its good to have a choice.

The dog dirt remains in DV I'm afraid, mostly in the gardens around block 9. However, there is a lot of work going on down at the port to repair the potholes etc. Also, the road from DV to Fairways has been cleared of all the over grown bushes. Lots of  good work in progress to tidy up Duquesa and the weather has been wonderful too! Just need to resolve the dog dirt.

Hi Paul,

The hotel Albyat has a good gym too, €7, and also a spa centre with pool and sauna but that is extra. A monthly ticket for spa and gym is about €70 but well worth it if you like the spa and gym.

Incidentally towels are not supplied at the Albyat or Casares golf.

Work has started on building a prom between the port and Castillo, certainly a positive sign for the area.

I have noticed the dog dirt arounf block 9 and i suspect it is a dog which lives very near to the block. Suggest we all watch out and challenge people who have a dog but no bags to put the doggy in.

Gail Richards as written to AEA with some suggestions about  the dog dirt issue. Lets see if anything positive comes from it.

As the road through the village is actually a public road I believe that it is an offence to not have your dog on a lead. Can anybody confirm this ?

Thanks for the information John.

The news of the building of a prom between the port and Castillo is most cheering.

Castillo always seems to neat and clean.  If the Port was cleaned up to the standard of Castillo ...

REF: The Dog dirt around BLOCK 9 – a few months ago I challenged a  Tall dark haired Spanish lady who was letting her DOG do its business on the grass, (golden or Chocolate retriever I think) she then walked away- I did approach her and say in my pigeon Spanish that it was disgusting and she must clean it away, she gave me back a torrent of Spanish (which I did not understand) and went back into her APT....I think it was Esc 33 or 34

I was furious; we counted around 30 piles a couple of weeks ago in the grassy area around block 9.

The gardeners don't move it either, which I suppose its not really their job..??

Hopefully this rainy spell will clean it away for the moment, but I shall be watching if I see this lady again and take note of her address.

Not sure what can be done, I doubt that AEA would challenge them…???

Bernie,

first priority is to confirm the address and take a photo of the crime being committed.

The taking of the photos may itself deter.

Then I would suggest mailing to AEA and to members of the management team who can

if needed put a motion to the AGM for management surcharges to apply to owners who cause the estate management the extra

cost.

I do think the gardeners should clear it up or bury it.  I also think the gardeners should be asked to routinely report there observations to security and the estate security should be asked to look out for the culprits.

It seems like all the Spanish don't care a damn about dog dirt being everywhere.  I was amazed once at the quantity along a foorpath in the town.
