who drives a british registered car in spain

the following was posted on a Torrevieja forum and I think it should be bought to everyone's attention

Nobody soon ,unless they are legal, as the MIG have a new wi fi it pc kit ,that can tell by a scan of the plates ,if car is uk taxed ,insured, mot, if not on the database ,its the CRUNCHER ,and a nice fine for the owner. so after the 6months is up ,the vehicle is not legal on spanish roads, and also the MIG ,know who are running  dodgy uk cars, they pass them most days on the way to the barracks or if on patrol,

A vehicle equiped with this technology was sitting on the main road to Murcia last week near Balsicas, and they had pulled over 2 UK registered vehicles. No doubt of to the crusher for them, along with hefty fine to the owner.

Have also heard that the Spanish authorities are trying to impose a ban on importing right hand drive vehicles, due to poor visibility through being RHD.

we have just brought a car in the uk and are planning to drive it over to spain early next year we no that we have to re register the car in spain so we are going to do it when we arrive can you tell us if you no what it involves and who we have to contact, also you mention that the authoroties might be banning imported r/h drive vehicles will that mean people who already have them will they have to dispose of them? and who can we contact to find out more about this .

Hi,with reference to re registering a car, there are a few things that have to be done first:

1. Headlamps have to be changed, (can be quite expensive)The head lamp convertors you drive abroad on, are not suffice.

2.All tyres must be of the same make on the vehicle for first ITV inspection

3. The rear fog lamp has to bee moved to the left of the vehicle if only one fitted.

$. And ,of course,the vehicle has to be mechanically roadworthy in all aspects.

There are many people who advertise to re register a vehicle in Spain, I can supply you withy the number of the person who did mine if you pm me.

Spotted the bit about banning rhd cars in a newspaper, it didnt say any other than that, who knows!!!!

And for those who have already re registered, I cant see the authorities doing anything about it, to be honest. Unless they give good incentives, then I will have a nice new Lamgorghini,  lol.
