It is a tradition amongst Spanish male workers to drink a spirit with their early morning coffee. This may be anís, patxarán, miura or something stronger.
For a few years I was in the habit of partaking of a miura (licor de guindas - cherries) with my café con leche, and I found (or imagined) that it pepped me up for the rest of the morning.

Now that I have become an alcohol-free human being - for medical reasons - I no longer indulge. A good thing.
The other advantages of giving up the booze are that I have lost 11 kilos in 6 months and I sleep better and longer.
