Tuesday, May 16, 2017 @ 2:42 PM

L'Eixample (Ensanche in Spanish) is the name given to the second district of the city of Barcelona. It occupies the central part of the city, in a wide area of 7.46 km² designed by Ildefonso Cerdá. In addition, it is the most populous district of Barcelona and of all Spain in absolute terms, with 262,485 inhabitants. The Passeig de Gràcia is located in the heart of the Eixample and divides it into two: "the left Eixample" and "the right Eixample". If you are a student looking for student apartments in Barcelona, you should read this article because you're going to love Dreta de L’Eixample!

 The Golden Square

Dreta de l'Eixample is the central district of Barcelona and it’s delimited by the streets of Naples and Balmes and bordered by the districts of Gracia and Ciutat Vella.

In this context is the well-known and famous Golden Square ("Quadrat d'Or" in Catalan), which is in its limits, with the Paseo de Gracia as a backbone. In this square are the main modernist jewels of the City of Barcelona: La Pedrera, Casa Batlló, Casa Amatller, Casa Lleó Morera or Casa Rocamora. Also in these streets are the big luxury firms and some of the best hotels.

Cafes, walks and the best restaurants

The Eixample is a residential area of the city (one of the safest) and which in turn offers a dynamic nightlife and a pleasant culture of cafes. In addition to the tradition of sitting on the terraces of the neighborhood to see people pass, it is the ideal place to take a long walk in its streets observing the wonderful architecture that it offers.

Also in L'Eixample are some of the best and most expensive restaurants in the city, making it the perfect place for a glamorous dinner with friends or for a romantic evening. Living in l'Eixample is synonymous with comfort. The area has a very good communication, which allows, through the metro, the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) and the bus, to reach any part of Barcelona in a really short time. Even walking you can reach most points of interest in the city, as it is one of the most central neighborhoods.

What’s else?

In the most central area we find great shops, offices and luxury homes. Dreta de l'Eixample was in the early twentieth century a bourgeois neighborhood, many of whom went to live in the upper area, despite this the neighborhood is still a comfortable, middle-upper class.

The floors in general are large, with quite a few rooms and balconies, although many are antique. It is an expensive place to live, especially for a single person; you can find many rooms to rent in this area. Buying a flat in this area can cost between 4500€ to 5900€ per m².

Overall it is a safe area, with some of the city's most expensive shops and restaurants as well as gyms and upscale shops and good private colleges. While it is true that the presence of tourists attracts some pickpockets. Among its disadvantages is the lack of car parks. It is a good area, central and well-connected if you can afford it, not only buy or rent a flat in this area, also pay a lot more for schools or gyms for example.
