How about this for a perfect example of lousy town halls. A guy with a shop in our plaza has lost money in his business and has closed his doors. He pays 2,400 euro´s per month rent, or rather should but he cannot afford it any more. He has re-mortgaged his house to keep up the payments on his lease. Last week he found someone prepared to take the lease on. It still has 2 years to run and he is being threatened with court action as the landlord will not let him out of it. The prospective new tennant went to the town hall to seek a change of use permit and opening licence. But, the town hall say they will not issue any licenses until December at the earliest. So he is not prepared to take over the lease and pay 2,400 euros per month whilst unable to trade. In the meantime Graham (present lease holder) cannot stop an inevitable repossession of his house, and all because the town hall are being investigated for corruption and cannot be trusted to sign anything this year. There is no way around this situation and his lawyer is powerless to help any further. The new state of Kosovo is beginning to look appealing!

An incredible story  and it begs the question, "What's the suicide rate in Spain?"

I think the sun and sangria has a positive effect on suicide Sandra. Hardly hear about it anywhere, although with the credit crunch hitting Spanish lending institutions I never walk past a bank without looking up at the open windows. ;+)
