I read a posting from Audi but can no longer find it. I'm looking for a mortgage and he mentioned Barclays. Can anyone advise of any good deals and how I go about making contact with the relevant banks?

Hi Robbo

We took our mortgage with Halifax ES - no problems, plain sailing and very helpful.

Just be careful of compulsory products. There is no regulation on mortgages here so lenders are not obliged to tell you anything or be transparent. Often people have gone to Notary at completion to find there is a compulsory life cover they did not know about in advance - sometimes this is single premium (one premium for the whole term of the loan) and they will add it on to the mortgage - secured lenders and home improvement loans from finance companies are notorious for this in the UK - the likes of First Plus, First National and Black Horse to give an illustration. Not good advice to have life cover here as it becomes subject to Spanish IHT - and what the heck you might not want it anyway.
